GNOME and Unity desktop alternatives

Sorry, will stay with trusty Windows 7. I'm not into blondes.
 
if your using ati graphic card just remember to install your graphic card drivers/binary for linux or kde will be s*** slow, that was my experience, until I installed my drivers, now its quicker then windows when i log in to my profile....:D
 
i played with Gnome3 a bit. Prefer KDE4. It seems to have added more actions to do the same tasks when compared to Gnome2 or KDE4.

That being said, if I started out on it I think I would actually find it quite pleasant.

I felt long time ago that xfce was as heavy as gnome so i guess those who want to avoid gnome3 can switch over to it.

maybe when i am inclined, i will one day take to fluxbox/openmw.

which is why i don't believe in being a zealot. it makes little sense for me to run anything other than binary graphics drivers.
 
Strange that there's no mention of Ubuntu's new Unity interface for 11.04... available for download... which I'm doing now!

Yes the blonde is hot! :D

I think that is why this article exists in the 1st place, to show those that don't like unity that there is alternatives.

Not everybody likes unity

Oh wait you can't read....
 
Giving Unity 7 days, if I am still not comfortable I'll look at alternatives.
 
Keen to give Unity a try as well. Will download this weekend. Doubt I'll be switching from Gnome tho. So will probably end up installing it on Natty, or switching to the latest Mint
 
Unity is a waste of time. Really. My PC has gone backwards since the last upgrade. Hating it. Everything is screwed up.
 
omw.. another issue. I have two monitors. Using the Nvidia drivers I am able to create another X server... problem is now... you cant drag an application from the one monitor to the other monitor..... but the mouse goes over. wtf...
 
Tried upgrading to 11.04(Unity UI)... failed, some or another pre-release version issue... I'll take that as a sign to leave it alone for now!

ARe you using the open source drivers? The actual nVidia drivers have TwinView, which is what I use. Works brilliantly.

XFCE has always been my first choice. Anyway, today I decided to see what unity is like and its not to bad, still stick to XFCE though. Everything worked, dual view included. As superfly said use official drivers.

I actually used a 2nd monitor with my laptop for the 1st time a few days ago. Onboard Intel video, and it worked perfectly. Really thought that stuff only worked well with Nvidia cards (on Mint btw, the one that's equivalent to Lucid).
