This is already being discussed in the news & current affairs sections but for those that don't know or don't visit that area of the forum, you can still go and register to vote now at the polling stations.
 
Has been announced that voting stations will not be staying open later, so get your asses into gear :D
 
Is true.... they can't STOP you.... its your constitutional right to vote... they do not have the right to turn you away.
 
sis went in and scanned her ID, the guy said she wasnt registered. she told him that she heard that she could complete a form to register and then vote, he said that she was incorrectly informed
 
"If you are not near the voting station where you registered, you can still vote at any of the 19 700 polling stations across the country. You will be required to complete a section 24A form. If you are out of the province where you are registered, you will only be able to vote in the national elections."

I must honestly say I love how ppl will blindly accept things....

I would have said to the guy who scanned the ID that he must show her the regs that says she CAN'T register.... she could have voted in the national election at the very least.

One still needs(ed) to be registered.
 
Yes... BUT from my understanding is that if you aren't registered at that ward, they'll let you vote in the National elections.. not the provincial.
 
As far as I know, you need to have registered by a certain date to be able to vote, national or provincial. If you neglected to do so, you can't vote.

EDIT: There was ample time to register. They kept pushing out the dates. And setting up special registration stations. And people were free to register at any time until the closing date at any municipal office.

Yes, but if you aren't registered at all, then you can't vote at all (and can't register on the day).

If you are registered, and out of your province, you could vote for national only.

Another last minute change was that you could vote at any polling station within the province that you're registered in (both national and local votes). Well, Western Cape at the very least. People were bussed to other stations, that's why many of them ran out of ballot papers too. :mad:
 
I think you could fill out a form (can't rem the name) if you were at a station OTHER than in the province you were registered (and something tells me they wouldn't have been able to check if u had registered) and you could vote in the nationals.

EDIT: Thy can check, I think? Those little scanner devices they had pulled up if you were registered, and your number on the voter roll. That was on the printout. I got that while I was outside in the queue, and it matched up when I went inside and they crossed off my name off the printed voter roll for that station.

So get proof. That sticker in his ID book is proof. "The holder of ID number [ID] Applied for voting registration in Voting district [number] [barcode] [Date & Time of registration]"
Just have a look at that Date & Time on the sticker...

If it is today's date ... someone might lose their job!
