Going cashless

Haven’t used an ATM in probably 5 maybe even 10 years.

Draw money with groceries at the till once every three months or so just because my domestic lady sometimes wants a bit of cash for transport otherwise it’s all EFT.

Otherwise everything is cardless.
Cardless is not cashless.

I usually have a couple of Rands in my wallet, but that's only for the car wash and the odd beggar, petrol attendant, pamphlet dispenser.

Yup, was mostly talking about the kids carrying cash for civvie day, paying for photos, tuck shop, etc.
Why are kids even being allowed to pay for stuff themselves. They should just put everything on the parents account/statement.

I just looked through my records and realised that I last withdrew cash at an ATM on 31 Oct 2021.

I seem to have gone cashless without realising it.

If it were not for my wife, carguards and the like would starve. Even the parking attendants in Stellenbosch take card payments and vendors who don't have card machines will take SnapScan or equivalent. My occasional garden engineer is paid via EFT.

Does anyone else still handle cash?

Nope ... try my best to not handle cash. Have not used an ATM in about 10yrs ;)

pragtig.

Cash is certainly not king for me, but I'm a long way away from cashless.

My barber only takes cash so I only get a haircut when I happen upon some notes.

Normally I get cash by lending money to a cleaner at work (by EFT), and then she pays me back cash. She’s running a small pyramid scheme of sorts, every month she borrows from one of us to pay back the other.

Kids can be taught the value of money at home. School is not there to do the parents job.
Parents send kids to schools to learn, even about money, because most parents make lousy teachers.
