Whats your take on people going to work while sick? Are they doing something right or being idjits?

While I admire the work ethic of some people who work while sick, I personally think they're idiots. Firstly it takes longer to recover and more importantly is its something contagious, they're putting everyone they work with at risk.

Not to mention the nasal grunt of the phlem clearing that a large portion of the population think is ok.

What do others think?

I personally have not 'felt great' and still gone to work and maybe it wasn't the greatest idea, but I love my job and I enjoy being at work, so what I've noticed is, I feel kark, goto work, and then forget that I feel sick and enjoy the day, it's when I get home it all starts again, then I just relax etc.

With that said, I've been at the Department of Health: EMS (Metro EMS) for 3 years and have a 0 sick leave record. :)

I have been at my current job for 2 years so far and I do not think I have ever used a sick day. Yes I have been sick but never deadly sick so I come to work.

If someone on my team comes in sick, I send them home and ask that they work remotely if they feel up to it until they feel better. Being sick at work with other people is borderline rude.

If you're sick and at work, you're a douche. The work environment can be annoying enough already without your coughing, sneezing and phlegm-sucking. Keep it home.

Zero. Depending on what's wrong with the person, all they do is make other people sick. Besides, sick people can't work nearly as hard as healthy people.

How's that jingle go? "Take a day, stay home!" and get better!

It depends on the boss. With some bosses they need to see you at death's door, before they believe you're not fit for work.

For me if I can function, I go to work. That's just who I am. If I can't concentrate or feel too sick then I stay at home.

If I'm sick, I'm sick.

No point in coming to work and pretending that I can be productive, while infecting the people around me.

Idjits! Infectious people who show up to work should be fired.

If you are sick, stay at home. Go back to work when you are well, with a statement from your doctor that says you were sick.

Used to think it was being a hero and worth it.

But started to realize that we all mean zero to our companies, just another smuck in the chair, so why bother.

And people are inconsiderate and rude 99% of the day anyway, so this should hardly be anything else they worry about. Point being if you think you are doing the company a favour, you really are not. They could not care who actually does the work. So if you are sick stay home.

I will be mighty p1ssed if you bring some communicable disease to the office and make me sick.

Don't be a d1ck - stay home!

What if the illness isn't communicable?

Hangovers are not a disease :D

I can't remember how many people I've sent home when they were sick. Two reasons: 1) If it is contagious, the whole office will get it 2) a sick person isn't as productive as they can be.

To me, rather get medicine, rest and don't stress will lead to a quicker recovery.
