Has anyone ever eaten it?

It is the new super fruit discovered by the West. Colonialism and all that ....

I am really wanting to try it!!!

Here is what I read about it -

Goji berries are one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth! They contain:

> the highest levels of antioxidants of any known food (10 x higher than blueberries)
> 12 times more vitamin C than kiwi fruit
> more beta-carotene than carrots
> more iron than spinach
> 18 amino acids
> Vitamins B1, B2, B6 and E
> 21 trace minerals and
> Many natural compounds that promote health and vitality.

To maximise the medicinal benefits of goji berries, ensure that you eat the whole berry as nature intended. There are a number of processed products on the market that include a small amount of goji berry extract. These include goji juice, goji tablets, etc. All natural foods that have been processed lose a significant amount of their nutritional properties due to the oxidation process that occurs during manufacturing.

Quite expensive though, at R70 for 250g.

You've heard of the "goji" berry, "the most powerful food on the planet", they reckon. It's for sale on the Internet, in health food shops, via your hairdresser and at your door. It is urged upon you by workmates and peddled towards you by friends. It stops cancer, blindness, arthritis, baldness, impotence, death and the runs. It can make you live for 500 years, and it scrubs up a treat in cocktails (so they tell me).

It hails from Tibet, the Himalayas, Mongolia, or somewhere in China - just not from here, or anywhere in dumb, stupid, ignorant America. There is only one drawback with the magical goji: bull****. Unhappily, this particular element constitutes a significant percentage of the goji's active ingredient.

...

The goji experience is actually an excellent example of how the internet is not so much an "information super-highway" as a bull**** mega-sewer, with apparently credible websites set up to support fraudulent information disseminated by others.

They taste disgusting but supposed to be very healthy. A friend of mine in London's mother used to sell goji juice. It's the most revolting thing you have ever tasted.

I've actually got some in the cupboard (foisted on me by that lady friend I've mentioned a few times, the one who believes the earth is hollow and inhabited by aliens) and they don't taste bad at all -- little red sweetish dried fruits.

C'mon, dude -- there must be a hundred links in that article. Did you follow any of them? This one was particularly informative:

It's all a scam.

I am a girl, not a dude, sweetie :)

This debate around goji berries reminds me of character witnesses in court. Any defense can get someone to testify that the accused is a good guy and any prosecution can get someone to testify the opposite :D

Apparently the real scam is that they are not grown in Tibet as claimed. The nutritional value, however, remains.

The only way to judge for sure is of course scientific studies.

I have just ordered a bottle and will let you know if it works or not.

Kauai Health Take Away make the absolutely best Goji Berry Juices. They are like little cups of energy and taste fantastic too! (OK, now I feel like a Kauai rep:)

Goji berries rock, I add them to my breakfast cereal in the morning cause they can be a touch sour at times on their own! I only get the dried version and am looking for a good local supplier if anyone knows 1 where I can get them fresh?

Did you read the article Texo posted? I'm inclined to think this is way too much hype and not enough substance.

All I know is I have a Goji Berry juice at least once a week - I immediately feel revitalized. If its all in the head, then I still have no problem with it and would prefer not to read the article if its going to change that for me. There are few times when I would actually use this cliched saying, but "ignorance is bliss" on this occassion!
