Now I wonder how much of that is BlueMotion stop/start tech and how much of it will actually apply while being on the move.

I've found since switching my G5 to Shell Helix Ultra it's suddenly been dramatically more fuel efficient but at the same time my traffic patterns have changed because I'm working later and leaving later so dealing with less traffic.

Went from average 10.1 l/100 (tracked) to 8.6l l/100 (car's own stats) on this tank. Will have to see what it does over the next few tanks but I was starting to think the cat was dying...apparently not.
 
Isn't it maybe that the standard car comes with an E-Diff and the Performance Pack comes with the real deal?

It's no less secure, I'm struggling to see the risk that you speak off.

Apart from the convenience of never having to take the key out of your pocket, I would actually say it's more secure.

Also, what if you're hijacked? Np, leave engine running and make a run for it. Car will switch off after a few km and leave scumbag stranded.
 
What's the difference between an E-diff and just the ESP in general?

Both use the brakes to steer the car right?

I don't think it will just switch off by itself, as that would pose a danger to other road users. It will keep running until it stalls or the stop/start button is pushed.

A car will not roll when left in gear.

An auto will. Dad once did that when my mom's merc was still new(1st auto in the family). Walked out with the thing in D, went to the boot, it started rolling forward and he had to chase it. Stopped on a green pole. Paint's still on the number plate. The key cant be removed if its in drive though.

They addressed auto earlier in the article. This was specifically referring to a manual.

No it wasn't, they were referring to an auto box being left in gear, the earlier section refers to the provisions in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114 which requires that an auto must be in park before the key can be removed.

I bought a demo - so it was already specced for me and keyless entry was an option. I thought it'd be a gimmick feature as well in the beginning, but it's extremely convenient to have and one of my must have options in another car.

The older systems like mine didn't push a push to start, but rather a 'fake' type key that goes in the ignition while the real key is in your pocket - meaning I turn it like a standard key. If the car is in D, it won't twist to the off position anyway
 
Those base prices are crazy, and then you still have to worry about them optional extra's which come standard with a lot of other vehicles (including my vehicle).

For R380K I'd rather get a used Merc C250 Avantgarde 7G-Tronic.

Where did you get that price? I'm on the Merc website and using Configurator, I took the C200 and just adding the Avantgarde and Auto options, and I'm already on R417k. C250 starts at R480k.

Never mind... only saw the "used" part now

Quick question, but with the keyless entry, you simply tap on the door handle to unlock. Won't it be possible for someone to just tap on the door handle and get in next to you at a red light? Or is the unlocking feature disabled while the car is started?
