It seems to be the best GTi ever made according to every motoring journalist but it's been available for more than 6 months and there's only a handful on our roads compared to when the GTi 6 was launched.

Are there any issues with the car? Is it pricing? Even the enthusiasts aren't excited about it?

Anyone know why?

Because with great alternatives like the Opel Monza GSi 1991 COTY out there, a Golf 7 GTi just doesn't make sense.

So true, those monza's are a jewel, a real needle in a haystack to find a clean one.

Who wants the sound of a gti dsg exhaust, when you can have that sexy drone of the monza.

A Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991 is of historical significance.

A Golf 7 GTI isn't.

I think price is a large part of the problem but also because even if it is the best GTI ever it's only a small percentage value different over the previous models.

So you'll probably find sensible people rather buying Golf 6 versions now for much less.

I mean that's how I bought my 5 since in reality the difference between it and the 6 just didn't justify the price.

I'll probably only considering upgrading to a 7 when the 8 comes out.

Golf's are too damm expensive , VW is suppose to be the peoples cars , more like the rich peoples cars

At almost 400k the people that wants a golf 7 GTi can't afford it and the people that can afford it buy SUV's and Double Cab bakkies @the 400K mark

This. For R470k I'm sure as hell not going to buy a Golf. I'm not sure about Golfs etc but Polos (after the price tag) comes without a service/maintenance plan. VW's are just ridiculously expensive for what you get imo.

I find the new golf's to be very comfy cars but so many golf 6s on the roads

Have you seen the options lists on the VW's lately, there is even an option to pay for the chair that you sit in while they show you the options.

Have you driven the Golf 7GTI?

I agree, they are hellishly expensive, but what a car!

I've driven the 1.4TSI around Kayalami, and sat in a Golf 7 GTI at Kayalami for a few hot laps - very different to the Golf 6 we drove prior!

But agreed, at those those prices, I'd rather get a rear-wheel BMW.

Lucky bugger ....

So forget about the price for now. Say they have a Golf 7 and 6 next to each other but they are all covered in those spy stickers and you don't know which is which and they let you drive both will you notice a big difference between the two???? Would love to see that on Top Gear

Drove Golf GTi (5 or 6...cant remember) around Kyalami on a driving course and I'm sure if I was going to buy a hatch for the race track my opinion would be different. I also drove in my friends Polo GTi on a normal road and to be frank - no fun. It's fast and all but the ride is hard. So for a road going car - hells no.

I shot a television insert for the Golf 7 when it was launched, and hell did they push it. Very impressive indeed.

I did the same for the Golf 5 & 6, and the 7th gen was a massive improvement over the previous 6th gen...

I disagree, it's not the price.
The golf 6 was similarly priced. The golf r also sold well.

For some reason nobody wants the golf 7, I'm just curious as to why.

I think they waiting for the new golf r, but purely speculation.

You definitely should feel a difference as the 7 has some fancy software LSD business that makes it drive quite differently I believe.
