So there is some potential that things could work out for me and I would definitely be in the mood for a new car.

Looking to buy out the box (i know all the implications etc) and in the price range of the gti (330k).
Am thinking i might want to make the stretch and get a 120d coupe though...

Which would you recommend? Anything else i should be looking at in this range?

/EDIT
why do they brand it as TSI?
from what i understand its not the TSI motor (turbo supercharged??) its just a normal 2.0T?

It's turbo- and supercharged. Go for the golf gti since there's already tons of them on the road, the scirocco needs to maintain its exclusivity :D

yeah...it is a bit common...but that doesnt bother me as much as it used to

Well, what kind of car are you looking for specifically? Does it have to be a performance hatch, or are you open to anything new under R330k?

i am looking for some decent performance (sub 8 sec 0-100), prob looking at kids in 2 years or so...so needs to accomodate them...
Figure the GTI seems a solid buy, it satisfies all criteria and hopefully will hold value when i need to flog it....the 120d coupe just looks stunning, interior bit bland, but it goes well, and i will be doing around 1500km - 2000km a month, so a diesel would be nice and economic..

Nothing else has really "jumped" out at me

It's a solid choice, given the criteria you're looking at.

120d will drop like a rock in terms of value. I mate of mine is trying to flog his but dealers offer nothing in terms of trade-in.

If you looking at kids and a GTI in the same time frame, forget it. If you looking to flog it before the kids come, then enjoy the speed of a hatch while you can. I did the same. Had my 2.0T for 2 years before had to sell for a Merc - kids take up a lot of space (and so do golf clubs).

I was under the impression it would have no issues with kids in terms of space? I have no idea on how much space etc kids need though?? But will def keep it longer than 2 years, especially if buying out the box..

What about the new Reneault Megane Sport Cup?

Nice!!! Interior looks sub standard though.... cant find a price?

I think he wants good resale.

Yeah, and if it follows trend..i will lose plenty on it

well the MK6 GTi is not selling as well as VW though it would.....hence the rush for the Golf 7 to be launched asap...late 2011/early 2012...

and also, everyone seeing you on the road in a MK6 GTi will laught at you thinking you got shafted in the rear by VW....falling for a face-lifted MK5....

I would consider the upcoming Renault Megane GT....

Why not a new WRX at 369?

All wheel drive
Turbo
Superb handling
195kw
0-100 6 sec

I had a look at it, but my ceiling is around 330k.... extra 39k doesnt sound like a heck of alot, but i need to set a limit somewhere.....
Love the car though, but i also dont want to be driving a wrx wishing i had the STI...

Golf 6 GTI - best bang for buck and possibly best resale on the market.

Let me put it this way.
Pram - bloody huge things. Takes up 60% of the boot in a Merc, i am sure it will struggle in a Golf.
Also, remember the Pram, u tend to leave in boot - cos u get a bit lazy taking it in and out... so u end up buying groceries or ... damn the boot is already full.
Babies have a lot of stuff, have luggage bags that is bigger than yours, and the wife i am sure will want to pack everything of the babies in the boot.
With new babies also come people that you may have to cart around, like parents and in-laws frequently travelling...
If i think a Merc is small, a Golf will defn be 2 small.
Take the GTO, enjoy it, and sell for an A4 or SUV when the baby comes.
