Golf V GTi drivers

Ok so i've finally decided to make the move over to VW from BMW....so yesterday i applied for finance for a brand new GTI (Got a nice discount too) :D

Anyways, without sounding like a total n00b, i have the following questions:

1. What mods can be done to the car without affecting my warranty?

2. What is a Forge CAI and how much will it set me back? Also, what are the gains with this?

3. Who can i take my car to in durban to have these mods done?

4. Does the Ipod preperation work with Iphone/Ipod touch?

EDIT: Will this car be running at 166kw stock?
Any advice will be appreciated.

1. most dealers will not allow modifications to your car. Some dealers will only allow work carried out by SPORTECH. if you establish a relationship with somebody in the workshop , you might be able to carry out some mods..these are the guys that come across your mods on your car and result in your warranty being void. Software (chips) are not easily detectable... you can get away with that... Exhaust mod's only affect you Exhaust warranty...

2. CAI stands for cold air intake... basically increases the airflow to your car... AFAIK gains are ok...not alot tho... software gets better gains...

Thanks for the info man! Software sounds quite nice but a bit pricey hey?

got a 17.5k discount from Alpine Motors. Candy White with Xenons, 18's, ipod prep, pdc, multi function steering and sunroof :D

Yup...a lot of ppl have said that newer spec GTI's are running at 166KW...
All over the world in fact... they speak of BWA spec GTI's etc....
I believe its true.. but really want to see for myself.. Will get my car Dyno'd
soon...

Well if you running at 166KW then u really dont need the software....:cool:
unless you want more gains... :eek:
The car is really powerful...even stock standard....

Candy white looks really hot... esp with those extra's :cool:

I think its kinda true. My brother has a 05 GTI and i test drove a new spec one the other day. The new one seemed to have more of a kick but i'm no expert so i could be wrong

yeah thats true hey. Maybe i'll stick to stock until i get a bit sick of it.

Lol i know, i was shocked when i looked at the quote. This is the 1st time i've dealt with that dealership so i was really surprised. Oh well, maybe they're having some sort of special or something

Dude, there is nothing to prove. If you dont believe me i dont give a ****.
Go to the vwclub forums and go see what they say, they have the time to give you what you want. speak to MJP,Rabbit222,Scorpious,Maldino.

hey catch, not sure if u will know but i've got a bwa 06 gti with an ecu engine upgrade done in uitenhage. just as a matter of interest any idea what horsepower i might be pushing out? my car is almost due for it's 2nd service, as soon that is done i want to get it dyno'd.

hey naushad,
To my (in-depth) knowledge, all '07+ GTi's with BWA engines were fitted with the K04 turbo. Yours is '06 so you will have the K03 turbo, but let them do the the ECU upgrade once more and you should push your power around +/-165kw (+/- 222.75HP ).

From my (limited) knowledge, not all 07 GTi's with BWA engines have the K04 turbo.. there's only a select few... the lucky ones... like you Catch... ;)
Majority of them have the K03 turbo...

easiest way is to get your car on a dyno ... if it stronger than 160kw you have a big turbo, if its around 147kw or so, you know its the small one.
If you do get it dyno'd, go to a reputable tuner, and i must warn you , DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO SAC.

Those wheels are called Karthoums, they OEM wheels. you will find them at the dealers.

As for painting your skirts, well, depends where you located ?

Keep in mind that car has CO's, that why 'perfect' look.

This isn't related to a Golf, but you guys seem to know your modding stuff... Where can I get the brake caliper painted on my Honda S2000 (in Cape Town)? Thinking Red or Black...can't believe Honda left them unpainted.

You can actually do it yourself,it very simple, but if you find it difficult or dont have the time, any tuner will do it for you. If you dont come right, i will ask a friend from CT to refer you. let me know.
