Golf V GTi drivers

no maybe you dont understand what we trying to say. Mazda and Honda might be reliable cars with good CSI ratings, but they will never match the Europian (German) cars in terms of quality and appeal.

you mean in terms of buyer's perception of quality and buyer's perception of appeal.

yeah its sad but maybe you're right there :o :(

im sure you know that German cars are FAR Superior in quality. Go jump into a Honda Type-R and then Jump into the MKV GTi. most of the Type-R is made with plastic, where as most of the GTi is made with leather. So by you saying its 'buyers perception' is absolute BS.

I have been in both, now i didnt pay much attention to spesifics as in this panel compaired to that panel.

But the Civic did look mighty kwl in an extreme in your face kinda way.
The Golf was nice like a comfy chair. But nothing jumped at me as worlds apart in terms of quality between the two. both had some plasticy bits here and there which is fine actually.
But in a whole 2 very different cars you have there respect to both :)

Thanks for the advice... I know im only boosting 1.2 max, but the guys who did the software did say about the fuel pump. I will speak to the mechanic about the camshaft as well.... Im a bit nervous to take the car in with the software and the DV installed. Do you reckon they will give me problems with my warranty?

Hey G5GTI05, the dealerships cannot pick up on the software. What I have heard is that the dealerships are flashing many of the ECU's so you might have to go back to Upsolute to have your software re-loaded.

Just do not mention anything to the dealership when you hand the car in. If you still a little worried speak to Gavin at Upsolute (Witkoppen Road) he can help you.

Any MK5 owners know how to turn off ESP???
Every time I start the car ESP goes on again...:(

It's called RICE. TBH I like the MPS but I'd never pay more than R150k for it because it has no appeal IMO, hence the 5 Mazda sells pm. Tell me this...why is the GTI still the benchmark even though it's not the quickest in it's league?

The only reason why you believe the GTI is the benchmark, which it isn't although this seem to be some people's opinion, is because the GTI brand name has been longer in the market than any of the other names such ST, MPS, etc and thus people think it's "the benchmark"

Its up there with the quickest, its also the better car overall compared to the others. I think the Seat is the hottest hatch on the market atm, but its new. there will alway be something newer and quicker, but as long as VW keeps raising the benchmark, the others will always follow.
Only VW can remove the GTi from its top spot.

It should by default be switched off when you start your car. You need to take your car in to VW and ask them to sort it out for you.

thats why when the MKV GTi was launched, the competitors (Focus ST,Astra OPC) had to quickly add bigger turbo's to 'try' and be a little superior to the GTi. Even though those 2 will be quicker, they lack the appeal and styling options a MKV has. Show me one pic, just one of those 2 that looks like sex.
sorry they will always be far behind the MKV GTi.

ummmm no.... it is designed to re engage when u turn the car back on... its a "safety feature" If you want to remove it (CRAZY) you need to remove the fuse in the fuse box, front left of car. Which fuse controls it will be hard to find, but the guys at VW advance driving know - whether they tell you is another story. Try the software guys, ie GIAC, REVO, FRC... perhaps they will know and tell

My MK4 Gti doesnt have it...
I dont think I need it:o
Besides I like to lose the wheels sometimes, especially 1st to 2nd.
I guess I have a sport button now lol!:p

Different strokes for different okes I guess... my one friend actually only knew the GTI and she was in love with it, but then I arrived with the Focus ST, she changed her mind and never looked back again... unless it was the rear view mirror in the Focus :p

Thanks BFGTi... had a chat with Gavin. Should be all good... its going in tomorrow to have a couple of lil issues resolved and hopefully they will sort out the limp mode effect by changing the fuel pump (although it hasnt happened in a while) but will take it for a power run to check the power at JMS.

Does anybody know of a place to dyno cars just a dyno reading in the 4ways area?? Damn Benoni is far!

hehe, thought as much. But why do u want it off permanantly? That is like saying you dont want ABS. I drove the GTI around kyalami with and without ESP and let me tell you.... the mineshaft without ESP is scary! It can save your skin...hehe and I relate that to the road.... only time mine comes off is for the launch control and is back on by 3rd...

@ Mazda boy the GTI IS the benchmark!! Show me one motoring article where a new hatch is released and its not compared to the GTI.

@Upsolute boys, please give me some feedback on the map. I've only had FRC in my MKIV and the performance and after sales service was amazing. I know a few guys with Revo and they are more than happy with performance.
The most power from an FRC GTI V at the VW dyno day was 178KW atw.

What kind of power are you guys making? Whats other mods do you have?

I had an ATP down pipe in my 07 GTI. The sound was awesome and there was definitely an increase in power. I'll be fitting it to my 08 GTI soon. Then Im going to chip it and maybe do the intake.

Its a PGTi not a Mk5, I just like it more, I know how dangerous torque steer is etc, but I prefer not having ESP on all the time, 110Kw I can manage that.
And like I said the Mk4 doesnt have ESP and it manages just fine.
