Good age to marry

Same here, Met my wife when I was 19, she was 16. We became best friends, and only started "Dating romantically" when I was about 24 (I was engaged to someone else for about a year when I was 22). We got married when I was 28. First & only kid at the moment when I was almost 31. I'm 36 now.

Met my girlfriend at 19, proposed to her at 26 (nearly 7 years later), we will be getting married at 28 in 2013. (both same age). Things are awesome! there really is no rush.

Obviously each person is different.

For me 28-32, my reasons being is that i will only really be done with my studies when im 25, at that age i still want to go overseas and travel + work for a year or two. On the other hand you cant really plan stuff like this, so ill see where the road takes me!

I don't believe there is an ideal age for getting married.
If you are both mature enough to be able to handle the stresses that married life brings, go for it.
My wife and I were both 24 when we got married, and we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary last week.
Our son was born when we were 27, and he is doing matric this year.

Some of our friends that married at about the same age as us got divorced within a few years, while other friends of ours that got married when they were in their 30's also got divorced.

It is not so much the age at what you get married, but rather your emotional maturity, what you are prepared to put into the marriage, and what you are prepared to do to make the marriage work.

agreed. finishing studies first played a huge part for us.. buying houses and getting married should never happen at the same time as finishing masters..

Interesting thread.

I'm engaged, I'm 23 and she's 25. At least one of us has it right!

I would say spend half your life unmarried. So 35-40 is an ideal age for men.

I got married when I was 28. Turning 31 next month.

i got married at 27, and first little one arrived last year :)

I cast my vote for 30'ish. Anytime before that you're too young to know who you really are and what you really want and trying to maintain a stable relationship while you're trying to figure all that out isn't great...

For women 25 to 29 for men 28 -32

This is my thoughts too.

I think I'm only really ready to get married now.
My girlfriend keeps talking about marriage, and yes, I get the hint, but I want her to finish her studies first before I get married - It's her dream to do what she wants to do and I don't want anything to get in the way of that.

Marriage leads to babies and ya ne!

I don't really understand why financial stability is a prerequisite to marriage, except for the wedding itself and if you actually have children. But plenty of couples live without children for years, supporting each other, travelling together, making ends meet.

Emotional maturity is a bigger factor. Marriage isn't easy. 20 year old me couldn't have handled it. I got married at 29 and I hadn't really had much in the way of prior relationships, but we have I would consider a very strong relationship now and we have gone through a lot of serious pressures together.

The one issue with waiting until a relatively old age is it doesn't give you much room to change courses. If you want children, you need to start ASAP, which minimizes the time you can have together as a couple. Her window for fertility starts becoming more fraught with issues once she starts getting towards 34~.

40.

There seem to be tons of kids in their early 20's getting married these days (judging by all the fools prancing around at robots in womens underwear ).

I have been to a couple of weddings and know of a lot of people that are in there early 20s and getting married. I don't know what happened, why are all the kids getting married so young these days.

I'm 26 and me and my girlfriend have talked about marriage, but I told her we have to wait at least another year at minimum otherwise 2 years.

one thing is for sure i dont want my 1st child until after i turn 30

I think when you are ready... but I don't think that just out of school, with no job or qualifications is ready.

A marriage is all about your own life with your own place.... and independence from your parents.

I also think that you shouldn't wait too long. I know a lot of people that dated for 8 years, got married and the divorced a year later. After you get married stuff changes and you have to work a lot harder, you need to grow towards each other or else you will end up in different places.

At some point in your relationship you need to make that commitment to each other, other wise you are just staying together, not growing together.

Why is it always that if "you" get married stuff changes? Its like suddenly you have a driver's license and you can drive around for the first time, but now you have fear's of failure and what not...

And doesn't society play a large rule into forcing people to get married?

How many people actually marry for themselves?

Do you really have to get married? Why can't you just be a couple until death do us part...
