IF you are a Telkom Internet subscriber you would have received some interesting mail yesterday.

The new Cap Management feature.

Cap Management Tool

I am suprised that "Kwaai-Oom" ( RPM ) has not investigated and staff writer has not done a write up

I would think that this is something that Telkom subscribers have been wanting

Or maybe good news and Telkom in the same line is just not possible :D

I signed up for and tested this last month by adding an extra 1Gb to a 9Gb account. It worked as advertised and only capped and switched to local at 10.2Gb.

I will only see the billing on the next account to confirm R49/Gb OBB rate though.

It been around for a month on the usage tracker, Telkom will mess it up somehow soon not going to touch it, Now when their usage tracker goes crazy and does not cap you they may make you pay claiming you didn’t set your cap, or maybe I’m just paranoid.

Not the way it works.

You first apply for the facility for OOB purchases to billed to your Telkom account (which suggests that some applications will be refused) - takes about a week.
Then, if you get capped during the month, you can purchase extra gigs from the Telkom Tracker site (takes about 10 mins to activate using a OTC sent to a nominated cellphone).
Any unused gigs you purchase do not roll over to the next month when your cap is reset to normal.

Still to test the other issue whereby if you run your connection 24/7 you can go over cap until they reset your IP address and update your usage. The over cap gigs are then deducted at the start of the new month. I'm going to guess that if you have gone 2Gbs over you will need to purchase 3Gbs to get international restored - starts getting expensive @ R49/Gb and you're probably better off with Axxess R19/Gb until monthend.

Prior to this you could purchase extra gigs using a credit card which was a real schlep.

Much better explanation than any of the +-10 telkom staff at call centres and Direct shops. If i don't hear of any Telkom screw ups I'll sign up nextmonth

Didn't you know that ( RPM ) is a bot?? :D

I activated the local cap management on my account in December. End of December I got capped, while downloading, traffic just halted, on exactly 20GB. So last month I was happily downloading and when the thought crossed my mind that I might have gone over the cap zachowek, I checked and my usage was on 20.2GB. Now waiting for my account to see if they going to charge me for .2GB. If so, that cap management is useless.
