Just wondering because we can't go higher than 2 around here. They installed an ISAM recently, but things haven't changed yet. I'm hoping they'll change in future.

62 dB attenuation? I'm surprised you have a stable connection.
I'll upload a picture of the telephone cables tomorrow
They never bother to fix it properly and our neighbour refuses to cut their trees.

Put in your Telkom number here:

http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/

It'll then hopefully find your exchange, see how far you are from it(62db should be about 4.5km) if it's much closer then you may have a problem on your line, your noise margin isn't great either but makes sense if you're miles away from the exchange.

interesting, that on the Telkom website, my max is 20MB, but on that link, it only shows a max line speed of 4MB. so who is right and who is wrong. I checked with Charl from Telkom, and he confirmed 20, and the website was updated to reflect that. I intend to upgrade my line from 2 to 10mb, but i just want to be careful that i dont go 10, and can only go 4mb

That site was last updated in 2012 so is VERY out of date, but the exchange locations should be ok.

The shortest road route to there is 4.1km. Not sure about the displacement. Also they've installed an MSAN 2 roads away from me recently. Shouldn't that make a difference?

I think so. Vdsl Normally what 20 and 40mbps?

I don't download or game, only streaming now and then, so for me I can live with 10mb possibly even 4mb Line

So 62db is probably about right, well they either haven't or aren't going to connect you to the MSAN, try get details of a techie in your area to ask.

They likely are. My household is covered by the VDSL rollout on their map. If they haven't connected it yet, why have u heard it running when I walked past there? I don't know much about this.

Yep seems like it. What speed do you use?

There's about 1000 reasons you may not be on the MSAN, simplest of which is that you might be connected if you ask for an increased speed, the most complicated of which is that Telkom just don't feel like it.

You'll have to get Telkom on the line and find out unfortunately.

But I can tell you right now that you are almost certainly still connected to the old exchange still.

Your line must be dropping every 5 minutes with the new system, Telkom tries to keep SNR at 6dB.
Or have they not upgraded their system yet at your exchange? Only explanation.

very stable actually. It only drops when it rains heavy else its fine. I get 8mb plus speeds so no complaints from me. When I do have issues I get telkom to reset my line and it works again.
