Good or bad stats?

There's about 1000 reasons you may not be on the MSAN, simplest of which is that you might be connected if you ask for an increased speed, the most complicated of which is that Telkom just don't feel like it.

You'll have to get Telkom on the line and find out unfortunately.

But I can tell you right now that you are almost certainly still connected to the old exchange still.
Will they connect me though? I fall under the rollout section.

Don't feel like calling, so I messaged them on their FB page :)

BTW I forgot to mention that this old box is still here, so it's pretty likely that's the new blue and green one isn't activated yet.

Another question. A while back I asked a technician about the rollout. He said they were doing fibre. I was surprised. Then he said it could go up to 40 Mbps and I knew he meant VDSL. Why don't the know the proper terms?

Just wondering because we can't go higher than 2 around here. They installed an ISAM recently, but things haven't changed yet. I'm hoping they'll change in future.

You still have 10 db extra to play with so you can go higher than 2, maybe 4.

People seem to confuse SNR Margin and Noise Margin still.

Noise Margin = SNR - 6 db as it doesn't show the 6 you need for stability.

Doesn't seem like it actually as we're paying for 6. Occasionally it might jump to 3, but when I say occasionally I mean almost never.

My line is just as bad but stable mostly. At least I can get 10mb.

Anyone care to explain how this is possible?? Dude I have attenuation of 47 and noise margin of 8 sometimes 6 on my 4mb line, I tried upgrading to 10mb and man oh man did I face problems, even when the line was capped at 6mb sync still wasn't stable because the noise margin dropped to like 3 sometimes 2. Line dropped every minute

Quality of the copper. You should be able to keep a stable 6Mbps without an issue though. Do you have any noise on the line when making calls? Could also be a line fault.

Yeah there was alot of crackling on the line but i took out the phone as i don't use it..Technician came to my house and changed the cable from the pole to my house but still..I've settled for 4mb for now..but i just feel sad when i see people with almost the same stats as me get way better speeds..
