good quality, affordable red wine

Hi

So as some of you might know, Im tying the knot. Im looking for some affordable red wine to put on the tables for the guests.

I know that there are quite often some really good deals out there, and some taste fantastic. But I also know that you get the cheap specials and they taste like vinegar!!! :sick:

I'm in the CPT area, so wondering if anyone out there has some good, affordable recommendations for me?

what's your budget?

also, why only red, some people prefer white?
 
Go to LCD and see what they got. You can get away with R20-R25 for a bottle of red. You might need to do some drinking to see what tastes best. Merlot is a safe bet with guests.
 
Phone a few wine farms around Stellenbosch and ask if you can buy X amount of unlabeled wine. You will save a LOT! Then you can also stick on a personal label :)
 
I highly reccomend you do a bit of a tasting to see what you and your guests might like... You just missed the Winter Wine Festival in High Street, Tygervalley this weekend and it would have been an awesome place to get some good wines on special and also have the oppertunity to taste everything!

I have no idea where you can have that sort of experience again soon. Maybe check on some wine appreciation websites?

One brand I found at the festival, who were giving a tasting class / presentation, was Casillero Del Diablo (Celler of the devil) wines. This stuff is brought in from Chilea and it's price is in stark contrast to it's price level. I was pleasantly surprised. I think they are being stocked at PnP?

Roodeberg still one of my favorate red wines. I in general prefer white..specially if I am planning on drinking loads and in public. Red does tend to make people ...erm...rather physically unattractive lol

Was about to suggest the same. Don't forget the Durbanville Wine route... some very good wineries, all in close proximity.

Most of them do. Perhaps you could phone ahead and ask.

How many bottels are you looking to buy and what is your budget?
 
Robertson merlot, Durbanville merlot, Nederburg Baronne.

Good quality, might not be affordable.

Notes:
Wine 1 - Has a nice berry and smokey wood tastewith a well balanced finish.
Wine 2 - Smokey and light at the same time, with hints of vanilla.
Wine 3 - Smokey
Wine 4 - It tastes red
Wine 5 - ASADKKKasmmdn amnw~!

Do you have access to wines from Chile, California, Spain?

Since moving to the UK, I been able sample wines from all over the world. There are some really good ones.

South African wines compare well in quality, however, I think some if the more well known brands like Nederburg don't compare very well with even some average French or Spanish brands.
