You probably have a point there, I've gotten used to the bread-crumb style navigation from the address bar. God help me! :D Also, try going back to Windows 95, you don't realise how far the OS has come until you remind yourself of where it started.
 
In general, I don't care much about the underlying O/S if it is XP or 7 - as long as I can run Total Commander I'm happy.
 
MS messed up with XP. It is too good. They should have released more dud OS's and then released XP in like 2020. Once you have XP there is no real reason to upgrade (unless you're an os-phile).

Good point! XP was an awesome OS. I still use it on all my computers at school. But my personal laptop has Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to 7 as soon as I had the chance. Vista didn't really work for me, but 7 is awesome. My laptop is a VERY overworked machine, and 7 is keeping up so far without any major glitches.

Yesterday, some security guard stopped me from saving a batch file to a program directory.

I don't like having to scroll through the start menu's program folder to find my stuff. I have a 24" screen FFS, let me see all my programs at once
You get a tweak that makes it work like the old start menu - but +1, hate that too
I don't like the new task bar. I want my task bar shortcuts separated from my running apps. If I've got explorer running, and I want to open another explorer window, I don't want to have to right click to do it.
you can revert to the old style - mine will open new explorer windows.

Windows 7 rules, trust me - I also reverted back to XP at one stage, but Windows 7 is just better - you can't deny it, you just need to get a few new software updates and tweak your settings how you want them.

(I hated the new menu-less windows explorer - but you can set most things back if you want)
 
I have Win7 X64 on my laptop and XP on my work and home pc.

Personally love Windows 7, just a few things that irritate me but they are minor and as I get used to the feel and layout they bug me less.

Huge improvement on Vista (I downgraded my work pc as vista really sucks). and also much nicer than XP in many ways.
 
W2K until it absolutely essential that I change.

I have XP on my external drive but still like my simple, reliable and functional W2K.

No stability issues, security issues, etc.

It runs for months at a time with daily use.

When I am forced, I will go to XP. I've spent a few minutes on 7 and loathed it - much like Vista.

Mac' and their DRM BS can also get stuffed.

Linux learning curve up ahead!
 
I love Windows 7.

Netlimiter runs fine on 7, x86 and x64.
I find 7 much more stable and much faster than XP, but on the other hand, I did upgrade my hardware quite a bit, perhaps your hardware is older?
All the "I don't stuff ..." is laziness on your behalf (no offence). You can customize it so you can have it your way! Google away! :-)
 
I would go back to xp if you havent been running 7 for too long.. (more effort if you have)

You know windows 7 doesn't allow programs that aren't Microsoft certified to edit anything in the program files? Sounds like a good thing right? well imagine trying to link up Direct X with a shell into XSI. IMPOSSIBLE. unless you reinstall everything to not be in program files... So much unnecessary effort...

And also I recently had to reinstall windows 7 to get rid of the newer security updates which decided it would be a good idea to block all outgoing gaming connections..

And ofcourse the custom windows 7 reinstall feature said it would leave my programs and files completely untouched if i ran it. So i did. And imagine what happened? It left them completely untouched. And shunted them into a file called windows.old and removed completely from the registry so they pretty much just take up 200GB of space now and serve no purpose beyond being a dear reminder of how crap windows 7 is.

If you dont do more than browsing and typing on your pc. GET WINDOWS 7.
but otherwise, save yourself the hassel and stick to XP.

Probably the main reason I'll be forced to move on :(
 
To allow a program to edit files in Program Files you just remove the read only file attributes and give everyone write permissions. Easier than reinstalling everything.
