Goodbye Cell C

So you think MTN somehow attenuate the signal for devices with Telkom Mobile SIM cards, but not for devices with MTN SIM cards?

It would seem that way, yes.

Thought all connections to the tower gets treated the same, but definitely not so, as I saw it with my own eyes.

Price wise the vodacom contract is not bad 800mb data per month for 24months

Cell C in KZN is fine, I've never had issues...

Well obviously Midrand Edenvale Alberton are in the sticks

The only reason I tested them was cause of your praise on the forms

I still say the best way to test, is to grab prepaid sims from all four service providers, then do your testing with an extra cheapie phone. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's an once-off.

The quality of service providers differ a lot from one area to the next.

That's just a lie. How can Vodacom and MTN not have proper coverage where cell c and TM have coverage?
Fan boi ism is strong here.
Fact backed by Asa and icasa, Vodacom and MTN signal far superior to the other two.
Besides the other two are piggy backing on the superior networks.

At my sister's house, she only gets Vodacom Edge, but on Telkom Mobile I am getting HSPA+ 15Mbps when doing a speedtest, standing right next to her.

How do explain that then?

But you are definitely sucking on the hind tit when on roaming, as a colleague of mine was standing right next to me with a full signal on MTN, while my roaming signal was on two bars.

It happens with iPhone featuring "grip of death". I saw some other expensive smartphone with terrible poor reception. :)

Seriously, device can be stuck on different frequency in the area where 2100MHz is also present.

Cell C's network disgusts me. They have all these ads on TV and sponsor all these sporting teams but can't service their own customers. Much happier now with TM. Crystal clear voice calls and high speed data downloads.

Not long ago they received an injection from shareholders and bank. Instead of using that cash on marketing and sponsoring they should have used that much needed cash on infrastructure , updating/upgrading base stations.

+1.

Throughput speeds and coverage in the area's I frequent have not improved one iota in the last year...but they've got money to shell out on ludicrous sponsorships and to pay Mark Pilgrim top $ for a cheesy "Care Bear" advert.

Sitting at work now and barely getting Edge atm....haven't been able to do squat on my device the entire morning.

Well i can say I'm extremely happy on the red side. The call quality is amazing compared to cell c. Would rather cell c sponsor no sports teams and fix their network. My wife signed up with them when they first launched. I handed out balloons on a street corner for the launch.

CELL C service is non-existent in my house and I refuse to cough up R1000+ for equipment to be able to get full bars. I was stupid when I was with Virgin I should have complained cos I was on contract they probably would have installed equipment to boost the signal(repeater).

The red side is the only service provider I get 5 bars in my house;mtn, cell c, tm I am lucky if i get 1 bar with them. P.S don't stay on a farm or anything stay about 5 KM from CBD which is disappointing. I had a technician come over to my house and he blames my walls. I couldn't control myself and laughed.

Instead of spending money on advertising Believe Campaigns, sponsoring sports team, use that much needed cash you've on hand to build state-of-the-art infrastructure.

I wanted to purchase another 200 gig data bundle but after the experience I have been through for the past year. I just tuck away the sim card and only started using it now as the data bundle will expire next month
