I have never received a warning from M-Web, nor have I been "Throttled", however all the reading of how the line perform once this occurs is really worrying me.

What I would like to know from AfriMan and MWEBGuy respectively is if there would be any "throttling"/management of my account if I continue the same trend that I have been doing over the last 12 months into 2014 on their respective networks.

Additionally, what does everyone else suggest?

I am currently on 1Mbps Premium Uncapped (R199) product.
Here is my monthly usage for the last year:

found this posted 8 months ago, was a good LOL
Police: How did Mweb die? Coroner: It seems they were throttled.

lol, very true indeed.

Based upon the data on the Afrihost website, plus general feedback on the forum it seems my usage requirements shouldn't be a problem if I switch over.

Mwebguy wont'/can't answer you. They throttle however much is required so they don't have to buy additional capacity, mweb's only aim is to maximise profit margins, you should leave now before it gets worse because its not gonna get better.

Afrihost does not throttle on any of their uncapped accounts. I have done 200GB in a month on my 1Mbps line, no throttling.

Im on a 1mb mweb account, looks like 105gb per month is the threshold and your very far from that :)

W'll definitely never throttle you regardless of your total. We only ever shape non-realtime traffic. We also don't punish heavy users with automatic shaping by a specific threshold, though when there is an increase in demand, we start shaping from the very heaviest users downwards.

Our aim is to shape the very least amount of users ( or none at all) and to the very least extent that we possibly can and give maximum network capacity to clients at all times.

Drop me PM at any time if you have questions :)

Morning, your usage reflects that you are within acceptable parameters.

We are within our first month of throttling on our premium shaped accounts, it is still a work in progress.

Afriman , your help system needs some work.

I went through four different people trying to get some answers about moving over to your ISP.
It seems like my correspondence doesn't carry over to the next person that looks at my ticket.

I did make sure to have the ticket number thing in the email subject. I did also try logging in on the site but it wouldn't let me in even with the correct details.

Joe drives along the road he has been driving for years, but all of a sudden he is pulled over and this follows:

Mr MWEB: " Sorry sir you have exceeded the speed limit, here is your ticket !"

Joe: " What is the speed limit? "

Mr MWEB: " I can't tell you, but just manage your speed better next time "

Joe: :wtf:

You'll do pretty well at Afrihost :)

In a short description, Afrihost's shaping works as follows:
You download as you wish. I find the shaping to be pretty much non-existent.
When there is network load, they switch on the shaper, and it starts with the heaviest users first. So a heavy user will get shaped down to 25% of his download speeds, but you only 50% or 75% or whatever. Browsing, youtube, gaming, etc is still full speed.
When the load is lighter, the shaping is made lighter, and eventually turned off again.
This entire month I've counted somewhere in the region of 12-16 hours of shaping for myself, which you must admit, is next to nothing.

It's my last week with Mweb!! I can't wait to move on. Deciding between Afrihost and Openweb!

Meaning be ready for worst to come!

I've decided to make the move. Hopping on over to Afrihost. M-Web cancellation form has been sent.

Edit:

I am not unhappy with the service I have received thus far, which is why this cancellation has been difficult.

Afrhost seems to be able to provide a much more transparent concept of how their network manages heavy load, or even a single heavy user. This I believe is a key factor.

It's not difficult to understand why Mweb is not revealing "how much is too much".

Let's extend this example to human life and murder ;)

If I tell you Necuno that you can kill a couple of people per day and you will not be punished for it, but if you kill too many, then I'm going to punish you. Now of course you have no idea how much is too much so you are more likely to not go overboard with your daily kills.

But if I tell you that the daily "kill limit" is 10, you can be safe knowing that if you only kill 9 people per day, there is nothing that I can do.

If Mweb customers know the GB limit that will get them throttled, they will push their account usage to just under that limit.

That being said...

The way Mweb is going about this matter is pathetic and are practically ignoring the complaints in the hopes that it will go away. ala SA Government style.

Mweb is in my opinion a unscrupulous company that must be held to task. Go go Paul!

made the jump to Afrihost. twas easy - not like Mwebs cancellation procedure. An INTERNET company requiring to you fill out, print, sign, scan and email or fax a form back whilst indicating on that form you wish to be refunded the difference if any is just plain pathetic. Mweb - go screw yourselves.
Happily surfing and downloading 20 minutes after clicked "Sign Up Now"

Did someone eat the bull**** PR? I guess these ISPs all suffered and like Neotel are going to suffer:

There's only one reason mweb and the mweb guy keeps on lying to defend this point: They want to be able to redefine it as it suits them.

Nothing is stopping mweb to reveal this, like all the ISPs who had and are using the rolling windows now like Neotel LTE
