Goodbye UberX

Uber has notified customers in South Africa that its mainstay UberX ride type will be discontinued next month.

The notice comes after the ride-hailing giant initially only notified users in Johannesburg in May 2026 that UberX would be phased out in their city from 1 September 2026.

Someone that works with me got a uber the other day and I was like "how did that car pass road worthy"? The service went to ****
It is becoming easy to spot Ubers now, no longer do you look for the vehicle with a NUZ or NUR registration, you look for the one with body panels looking like a packet of Willards crinkle cut chips. Even ones that are only a few weeks old, as evidenced by the registration being the latest block, always have a good number of dents, panel damage and door damage on them. none of it repaired, as that means both paying money in, and also not having the vehicle for a week or two, and if you have courtesy car cover they will also exclude you from using it for commercial use, and they also would have a tracker on it to show this.

i didt really see any difference in uberx and uber comfort for some time now ....cars were shitty eitherway

when i saw the last uber car i wondered wtf is this car part of uber...the decline has been swift...and then the huge fee they charge now...

Abdul the Algerian rapist is what you get in Cape Town, but you'll probably get where you're going provided you're not a vulnerable target.

Johannesburg has incredibly stinky, accident-coded, little vintage Toyotas for the most part, driven by barely coherent, moonlighting minibus taxi drivers.

A proper BEE-style demolition job on something that used to function well.

If my Uber doesn't have near pitch black illegal window tint they can gtfo.
I want real uber when I roll, the darkest dankest tint and it must be a nicely worn out Japanese shtbox that smells like sweaty ass and vomit.
