Well, have been a Vodacom customer for years (14 in fact)! Can't complain about anything... until now...

Moved to a suburb (large and upmarket, with about 400 families) in Heidelberg (GP) recently and the coverage by VC is pathetic. Calls gets dropped within a minute, 3G/Edge/GPRS is slower than dailup once you actually do get connected..., etc. So I finally got myself to go to MTN's site (something I never before considered because of my loyalty to VC) and checked their coverage map. Completely covered! So if MTN can do it, I'm heading to a shop this afternoon and getting a sim card. If its true, then I'm taking everything over to MTN....

Now to look at installing the MTN software so my 3 Vodaphone broadband modems (well 2 modems and a Dell laptop) can work with the MTN sim cards... Hopefully its just a straight install and done...

Any idea if there's still hope for VC? Can one maybe request a tower upgrade??? By this afternoon it may be too late though....

you'll be sorry when you're suddenly charged for things you didn't do... and discover its due to billing problems going back over a year, and nothing put excuses are offered.

Have you logged a Network query to confirm if anything can be done? Whats the 3G number ?

I can't wait to move later this year and get a telephone line. I'm absolutely sick of vodacoms pathetic coverage at both my flat and work.
I've logged complaints to 155 multiple times and then they sms me and say its sorted. They don't ask, they tell me. But obviously it isn't. Wow, just needed to vent a bit too. I feel better now, as you where.

Please do not even consider waiting for a tower upgrade. I have been waiting since July 2009 and nothing yet after how many promises that one is coming.

I have about 40Mb of data left on my Vodacom SIM. Once that is finished it's goodbye Vodacom for me as well. I have simply had enough of their poor connectivity and bad customer service.

MTN seems to be slightly slower than Vodacom, but their signals are much more reliable than Vodacom's.

I hope that more and more people decide to vote with their feet and move over to MTN.

Same thing in Nelspruit. I've used 3G/HSDPA (haha HSDPA, lol) all over this town. There's been numerous guys complaining the past 2 years and nothing has improved. At home if I use MTN on 3G only, not even HSDPA I get faster and more reliable speeds than with Voda.

There half arsed attempt at competing with the new adsl prices already have me tempted when it comes to data.

I feel your pain man. I moved over to MTN prepaid a few weeks back, didn't even wait for my last data or R112 on my VC sim to be used up. 2 Weeks of constant struggling proved too much for me and my job. 3g worked fine before the World Cup, then all of a sudden it just stopped, and if you browse this forum, you'll see its not isolated either. With no answers coming from VC, it's pretty clear they have no loyalty to their customers, so I have none toward them and will happily advise anybody to try an MTN sim instead of trying to get a solution out of VC. You'll save yourself a lot of time and frustration. Never forget, you're paying them for a service, you shouldn't have to beg and plead to get what you've paid for.

I have been running an MTN sim since last night in the place of my Vodacom one and I must say the connection is faster than the Vodacom one and it is stable.

I am so glad that I have finally decided to say goodbye to Vodacom. I can recommend this to all other clients having VC problems.

"Believe me, you will not get assistance from VC, so move over to MTN and let VC feel the loss of customers due to bad service."

Hmm, I think I'll try that too. Just need to unlock my card first.

MTN's 3G is blazing fast here - it feels like i'm the only one connected to the tower!

and add to that i'm paying a lot less for data too

OK.. Just a bit of feedback, since I started this thread.

I went and got myself the starter pack from MTN, loaded it with money and purchased a 500mb bundle, just to try it out (It is a bit longer process than with Vodacom though...) but as soon as I connected --> BLISS! Its working a LOT better. Spend about 3 hours online without being disconnected once. And downloading at speeds peaking at 200kbps, which is better that I ever got on VC anyway.

I'm using one of those ancient 620's. I didn't install that junk VMC program, only used the drivers in the folder. Connect to the internet as a normal modem, calling "*99#"

Using that MDM program now to do all the USSD calls and stuff. Brilliant. Can't believe I've been using VMC for so long!

Anyway. Success story for me and MTN in Heidelberg...

Oh.. and one more thing. MTN's bundles are valid for 60 days from purchasing it... not this end of next month confusion that VC has got...

(VC --> Now's the time to start and pull out some rabbits to make me reconsider you!)

I'm sold! :D
I need to buy a new usb modem anyway, seeing as my current card is the one freaking rare model thats not compatible with my router. FFS. So I might as well try an MTN one.
