Google Android versus Apple iPhone OS 4: Which is faster?

The big one in front of the Googleplex always make me laugh.
 
From an OS perspective I'd pick Android over any phone Apple make simply for the fact that Apple's behaviour isn't far from Microsoft's big bully tactics.
For example earlier this year Apple updated its Developer Program License Agreement to ban apps written using a cross-platform compiler.
Another example is Apple's blocking of certain applications or plugins such as Adobe Flash and Google Voice on the iPhone.
If I buy a smartphone don't tell me what I can or can't load on it.
Google on the other hand practically throw the doors wide open to developers. None of the "you may not do xyz" crap.
Apple can go screw themselves.

The other advantage of Android powered phones is that you are not locked to a single platform and price.
If you don't like a particular handset or it's too expensive for your budget you have other models to pick from (Samsung, Motorola, HTC, etc.).

Uhm yes, you just keep on telling yourself that, especially when gingerbread comes out, and your phone will barely meet the minimum required specs, great to have a phone that will be old in 3 months

Very true, Paul_S!

If Motorola is giving me crap, I'll move my business to Sony Ericcson or HTC, or Samsung, but can still buy an Android OS phone.

On the other hand, if Apple is giving me crap....I must just roll over and take it. :(

Well, unfortunately that is how it goes with electronics.

You buy yourself a Core2Duo notebook today and tomorrow Intel releases an Core i5 CPU....but it doesn't mean your Core2Duo notebook is suddenly slower or less useful than it was yesterday.

It's just the way it is.
 
It still doesn't matter, the iPhone will still outsellf it. So long as it has a shiny Apple logo on the back and you can impress friends and family with the smooth portrait to landscape transitions, you got yourself a REAL phone there.

Considering that Apple have been in the smartphone market a lot longer than Google and Android has been catching up pretty fast - I'm not so sure that the iPhone will outsell itself.
Android powered phones outsold iPhones in the USA in the 1st quarter this year and more and more manufacturers are developing Android powered devices.
Smartphone sales in USA Q1 2010:
- Blackberry 36%
- Android 28%
- iPhone 21%

Currently there are 30 Android-powered devices from 12 equipment manufacturers and it's growing continually.
Don't underestimate the marketing power of Google.

I never know when to take these comparisons seriously. It does not matter if it is between an X-Box 360 and PS3, or iPhone and Android. The problem is that the world is riddled with the ‘Fanboys’, and ‘anti-fanboys’, who always find facts that suit their agenda. (irony is that the fanboys and anti-fanboys are just so similar, they could be the same person.)

I believe that when it comes to phones, it all comes down to the individual. I have an iPhone 3gs, which I love. But when my father was looking for a Phone, I did not even consider recommending it. He wants a massive camera, and the ability to phone. Nothing else. I use the internet quite a bit on my phone, so I guess I will need to consider playing with an Android before deciding what my next phone will be. For simplicity, it will have to be good to beat the iPhone.
 
And how fast do they run flash... oh wait :p (thats like racing a cripple)

:wtf: Its awesome!, much more imaginative the... Apple and OS1,2,3,4.... yawn...
 
Lol - yes, while this comparison isnt completely useless - it mostly is.

Save 1s on browser loading on intensive JS web sites, but wait, when you're actually using your phone, as, well, a phone - you have to wait longer and have a crappier UI that will take you longer to get to where you need to be.

iPhone > Android Phones (at least still, for now)

Android is faster but I want to see it run on a Samsung Galaxy S which is quicker than the Desire.
