Google CEO Eric Schmidt's salary revealed

Steve Jobs from Apple has been getting a $1 a year salary for the last decade, and Apple hasn't paid dividends since his return, so I do think it is quiet morally impressive (That being said all these people are millionaires, so it easier to be morally impressive that us that need the money :-))

Hence I said "n00b"

There is nothing morally impressive,
...Has Steve Jobs discovered the ultimate secret of how to stretch $1 or is he just living an impoverished life that would make many of us feel better about our own?

Steve is able to enjoy a very lavish lifestyle, but not because of his large salary. His lifestyle is funded by his dividend income. Yes, Steve Jobs is probably one of the biggest dividend investors that you’ve never heard of.

Jobs owns approximately 138 million shares of Walt Disney (DIS: 35.10 0.00%) stock that he received from the Pixar Animation Studios sale back in 2006. In fact, he is currently the largest, single holder of Disney stock. Just the income from holding that dividend stock has enable Jobs to live a very comfortable lifestyle.

Disney has paid out dividends of $.35 per share each of the past 3 years. Owning 138 million shares results in over $48 million received each year in dividend income. Even Steve Jobs can survive on $48 million in stock dividends each year.

Another thing to note about Google is that they are notoriously bad payers.

So if you're a (for example) a developer at Google, you'll earn a lot less than you would at another tech company.

They make up for this in a couple of ways:
  1. "Awsome" working conditions.
  2. 20% Time
  3. Paying there executives less than they would earn elsewhere <- i.e. non-hypocritical.
  4. etc...

But since most of their executives are major stock holders, it's not like they need the money...

Yes if you got in early you make mega $$$ on stock options @ Google. I haven't seen for a while how many millionaires they have working there. I think the making millions from stock options - as a "standard employee" - ship has sailed for Google. I could be wrong...
