Google CEO salary revealed

Documents filed Monday with US regulators show that Google chief executive Eric Schmidt saw his compensation cut roughly in half last year due to tough economic times.

That really is a small salary for a ceo of such a large company. Their are SA ceo's earning a lot more than he does in much smaller companies.

Its easy to take only a $1 as a salary if you are already a billionaire. Admirable nonetheless.

You realise they are USD billionaires? I doubt any SA CEOs come close.

Nothing new. It makes sense to "pay" directors in share, then their goals are directly aligned with the goals of the other shareholders and it helps provide long term incentives.

An admirable gesture. I'm surprised by the size of the security expenditure on him though. Does he have so many enemies?

But the CFO got $25 million in compensation last year...

and they being in charge would earn more. the amount stated is mainly for his security, which is deemed a fringe benefit hence considered to be his salary. his salary is still $1 it seems.

With that salary you don't get taxed to the grave, it has nothing to do with being morally correct, or google being responsible(CFO earned $27 mil). It's a tax play game, and it's not new, some have taken salaries of USD $1 per year.

Eric is not really concerned by his salary, he get's the bulk of his money from dividends. So, to all the n00bs who think that this is morally impressive, do yourselves a favour and get a grip on life. :D

But it's all relative, living costs in the States don't compare to SA

Whether a billionaire in the USA or a billionaire in SA - it still comes down to the fact that it's a ****load of money, regardless of cost of living, and the type of figure (when converted to our cost of living) no SA CEO would ever achieve.

Steve Jobs from Apple has been getting a $1 a year salary for the last decade, and Apple hasn't paid dividends since his return, so I do think it is quiet morally impressive (That being said all these people are millionaires, so it easier to be morally impressive that us that need the money :-))
