Google discloses Windows GDI bug

I tried what the article suggested with no success. It did find some errors which it apparently fixed, but needless to say it did not solve the continuous downloading part.

I have once again disabled the BITS and Windows Update services.

I'm just tired of struggling with this for now, going to take a breather for a week or two before trying anything else.

Sorry to hear that it did not work. That solution has never solved a problem on any of the 20 PCs I have worked on.

A break for a week or 2 will mean that you could start with the latest update of WIN 10 and start with a complete new install on using a local account instead of an MS account.

Lets hope that Microsoft has learnt a lesson... :(

A large corporation learn a lesson? Not possible in my opinion.

The problem experienced by OP has been bugging many persons who did the WIN 10 upgrade ( or had it done to them without their say-so).

After about 13 months I finally got a reply from a very learned fellow on another forum (PM) giving me a bit of a run down on what happens when you sign on with a MS account and you have an issues with connectivity (many of us have this problem, especially on a mobile connection. Us on ADSL are not immune either). I re-installed WIN 10 quite a few times on the various versions and I always seemed to end up with the same problem. Loss of the Start menu and then gradually, finding as OP has found processes related to update and comms with MS servers just hog all the available CPU.

Unfortunately what he told me is confidential and I cannot repeat it. Suffice to say his advice was NOT to log on with a MS account but a local account. Do a clean install from a USB ISO stick, and then only log on with your MS account when your really need to.

Touch wood, since I have done that after the last major upgrade I have not had this sort of problem again.

Can you share with me in private? :)
If you ever logged using MS account on the particular computer, your Win 10 licence is linked to the MS account. Does it matter?

This is pretty much a fresh install and not an upgrade either.

Here is the install date

Original Install Date: 1/21/2017, 1:17:38 AM

For everything to go to **** a month in is just crazy.

I'll wait for the update and see what happens.
