Google+ gets updated: interface overhaul plus other new features

I love +
Selecting who to share with is the default - not as hidden as in FB
Looks better
More interesting people
Less baby talk and PMS rants
Easy backup of my Android phone pics, without having to share

the horse has bolted on this. restricting its usage when it still had some hype going for it killed it.

They have 170 million users :-/

LOL!

Nice to read about some changes happening but wake me up when Google Glasses comes out :D

Not coming out till Christmas next year.

I first liked google+ when it started but then people started to use it as a mini blog and since sharing is so easy everyone shares everything they read making G+ just full of noise so there is no way to distinguish between interesting and common news shares. Everyone sharing Kone 2012 over ,SOPA over and the same photographs, youtube videos over and over started to become irritating.

I'd rather use google reader to link to blogs rss feeds, twitter and facebook each on their own than try to use Google+ that wants to combine all of them into one.
You can follow less people? Try blocking out groups and just let the Hot Stuff group show. Then you see all the news info without having to go through all the news sites.

You're thinking of Facebook :)
For that to happen, Google+ would actually need real users
Well it has 170 million users :-/ Pretty impressive for such a short time.

Google-
No thanks. I can't exactly put my finger on it but each time I went into that site I got annoyed within seconds.

Maybe it's the brightness of the whole thing, or the fact that it somehow looks minimalist and cluttered at the same time, or that I cannot be bothered to learn the ins and outs of another social network even though most people I know use FB.

Or maybe all the little bloody + this and + that +'s count here and # there and hot +'s on Google+ all over and the "hang out" crap that looks like nothing I'll ever want to use, oh, and the horrible large font... reminds me too much of SMS speak or Twitter or something. *kots*

EDIT: Oh, and that Google bar on top that leads you into thinking you have a nice integrated area for Google Docs etc. and when you click the damn thing it just opens another tab. FAIL!
You like the blue of Facebook? It's blue because Mark Zuckerberg cannot see any other color. Lol! You don't like the Hangout feature but are looking for docs integration. If you collaborate with other people on a doc or spreadsheet it will be best to be able to see the other person and chat to them via webcam or gtalk. That's why it's integrated into Hangouts. Also it's just +1. There is also # so you can follow a conversation or a particular topic. Also Hangouts is cool you can play games with other people like knots and crosses and other cool games.

People should just give this a chance. I like Google's privacy better then Facebook. Like Page said. They (fb) got so many gmail addresses but don't export any of them. I cannot sync my gmail and facebook contacts.

I prefer G+, probably because no one really uses it, everything on my facebook is really just useless crap, G+ I add a few people/websites etc to follow and the comments on them are much more intelligent (no mxit spelling) than facebook. Not to mention the facebook app is the biggest turd ever. G+ app is so much better there's no comparison.

FB for communicating with people I know
G+ for meeting new interesting people who can engage is some good discussion

Saying that G+ is crap/full of noise/dull/have no users just says that you don't follow a good selection of people.

The only valid issue with it, as far as I can tell, is that less technical users (basically the majority of my friends and family) are slow to join and start to engage.

They had that number signing up for the service, but stats indicate that a large percentage of the accounts are inactive, which kind of defeats the purpose don't you think?

They recently announced 100m active users. But even if it's 50m, it's quite successful. It doesn't need to "beat" FB to be a success.

Those results are questionable:http://parislemon.com/post/18861112291/google-activity

Maybe we could ask MyBB for a survey of active vs inactive accounts, specifically only stating active if Google+ functions are being used and not the other services like YouTube, etc...

For example I have a Google+ account but I never use the specific g+ functions, yet services like YouTube, search, etc I use all the time.

Sure. I realize the issues with those stats. But, like I said, even if they were significantly lower, it does not mean G+ is not a success. Google is very happy with the progress and growth G+ has seen.

It's not really necessary to run a poll here to determine myBB member's attitude towards G+, as it's quite evident from this thread.

I agree, apart from the fact that there are so few of my friends on there, I am really beginning to like it more than fb

I prefer G+ as the quality of people I have in there is much better than the people that post in FB.

To give you an Idea:
I kind of see FB like FB users sees Myspace, its where the riffraff get together and derp.

And yes I hope it doesn't catch on like FB did, I hate the useless send this on if your religious or pledge to so and so ****.

That reminds me of something I read on Facebook yesterday: A friend complaining about bad service from some call center, typed out using 'mxit language'.
I replied with "If you spoke the way you type, I'm not surprised that you had bad service" :D

I agree, but that's currently how my FB account works and there's absolutely no reason why FB can't be as "grown up" as G+ other than someone's own inability or unwillingness to manage it correctly. (But yes, I agree that the managing of "circles" works better than FB's group settings)

I constantly manage my friend list and only interact with interesting people etc. It's taken me a long time to get my FB they way I want it to work so switching to G+ is just a pain, and I'll never be able to switch completely, managing two social networks? No thanks, I waste enough time with one as it is.

Oh, and I LOVE the timeline. Manage that thing correctly and you have a great way to see each and every thing you've posted, commented on etc. etc. over the years. It's also interesting to see how your own "mindset" evolves over time.
I even used it when the insurance company needed info from 2 or more years ago, because I could just scroll down through all the years/months to check when an accident happened, when you bought a vehicle etc.

There is nothing, I repeat NOTHING out there that comes close to the FB Timeline in giving you such a succinct view of a massive amount of social media interaction spanning years. Yes, it's obviously not as fast as it used to be but blame Telkom or whomever for that, I don't see people with 10Mb+ connections complaining.

Parislemon or shall I say MG Siegler is a self proclaimed Apple fanboy and thus a Google hater. Even if what he is saying might be correct I still will not believe anything he says. The whole incident with G+ not allowing his profile picture with him showing his middle finger was really just a way for him to get hype. I believe once that he was a good writer but he, Techcrunch and Cnet just went all Apple. He is definitively not objective anymore (bashing Google in any way he can) and that makes him a bad writer. I just follow him on G+ to read the comments to his posts. They are usually so funny.
