Google+ , google goes social

I deactivated my FB account last month. I had enough of 'friends' posting all sorts of carp on my wall. It's fine if it's friendly chat or banter, but it was getting too vulgar and potentially offending other family and friends reading through my account.

From what I have heard you can create 'circles' in which you can ring-fence certain users into your own groups. That sounds interesting.

I was concerned about FB's privacy and I do not need to be worrying about that. It just wasn't simple enough to maintain the levels of privacy I was interested in.

Google+ certainly looks interesting and will be giving it a whirl when it goes out of Beta.

You can't blame Facebook if you have weirdo friends.

have tried it & placed people in different groups.

If i post to group A then group B does not even see that i posted nevermind what other posted...

It's also possible to turn off the email notifications of every time someone posts..

You can post to more than one circle at the same time. :) Just add the circles you want (or the contacts directly) when posting.

Yes - go to account settings, Google+, and untick the boxes there.

I wasn't even aware that it SHOULDN'T cost anything...
Good point, but the software is free.
BBM is a load of carp anyway, so I wouldn't even want to compare it to that.
Actually, I use my wife's 9780 to BBM my folks, and have been pleasantly surprised with the app. It may be based on old technology (PIN, anyone?), but the little extras it has (delivered, read) combined with the phone itself make for a very good combination. Plus we're not even talking about groups, which is another conversation altogether.

Dunno if you've used it yourself. My opinion changed once I started using it.

That's right, but if you don't want all to see what you posted & only a select group then that is just perfect. Or add groups if you wish for a general announcement.

Could someone throw me an invite please?

Cheers. :)

Huddle does all you just mentioned... I dunno, I just really really really don't like Blackberry. Everyone at our office can attest to that. :D

i have been using it for a few days now, got my invite from a guy on here. its pretty nice, simple, clean, i love the drag and drop features. the +1's are cool too. i was a bit confused tho when i saw the pictures i had taken on my tablet appearing on my page with the option to paste them. i then realized that it had automatically uploaded the pictures to my profile but you get to chose weather or not you want to publish them for others to see.

i did have a few 'glitches' it kept showing me that i had notifications when i clicked to show them it says that i have no notifications.

one thing i really do not like is the way you search for friends.. maybe its because its still fresh and not all my friends have it yet. it kept bringing up strangers with the same names from different countries. my one friend said he could not find me when searching my name and my email address. i think there is still quite a bit of tweaking they need to do in order for it to fully replace facebook. witch is why we are testing it so you can 'give feedback' the more feedback they receive the better they can make it.

its strange not posting to a friends wall! now you just write a "status" and tag only them in it.

i dont see the private message option. other than chat.

everyone has to admit that facebook has had its DAY and it is getting extremely boring now.

go Google.... ONE STEP CLOSER TO GLOBAL DOMINATION!

Anybody I can PM to help me out with a invite ? ... please

Yeah, I'll help you out.

@StonerStuart - to message someone, simply start with their name (+name) - Google automatically notifies that person, and gives them access. Then reply to that post. :)

BTW, if anyone I don't already know about is on G+, lemme know. I'd love to add you to my myBB circle. ;)

Can anyone please send me an invite i would also like to try it out....PM it please. Thanks
