Google Maps Navigation

Had a problem getting it to install on CM 6.1, but i think it was because I hadn't uninstalled street view.

No problems on CM7. Just uninstall maps, clear dalvik cache (via titanium), install ownhere's hack, done. There are other steps, I didn't have to bother with.

I used the resigned version - not updatable via the market. When I get a chance I'll install it as a system app.

Hmmm, seems a bit slow going on 3G network, will check it out tomorrow morning on my way to work... Looks very cool though! :)

ONLY on rooted phones unfortunately :(

Mine never asked for root permission...? ADB is not needed, you can just install the apk, and download street view then it works

The xda developers forum said you needed root access. Also I tried uninstalling maps and streetview but it doesn't even give you those options.

The only reason you would require root is to remove the stock maps. Not sure how you would that otherwise.

Oh... you just said that.

Think there is a way using adb to remove the stock maps.

Oh okay, soz, been rooted so long I forgot what can and what can not be done without it! ;)

Anyway nice find, I got my car upgrade kit yesterday for my Desire so I don't mind leaving stuff on that drains battery now!

Same reason I am re flashing my Desire now.... going to use the thing as a GPS :)

I blame this thread :)

Oh wow, this app alone makes it worth while to root!!!!

Thanx a million nadimm, now to go drive somewhere just for the hell of it.....

i installed it today and it works!!

seems to use more data than waze does though, but the maps on google navigation look more comprehensive

Don't know if this applies to the navigation but Google upgraded from map tiles to vector maps which apparently makes the data footprint 1/100th of the original.

And nothing comes close to Google Navigation's android and search integration.

Nice. I was still using the old 4.2 hacked version :)

Updated versions, 5.2, as well as a signed version that can be updated via the market.
The post on your link says auto-updating for it must be disabled. This is probably because your phone will think it's the original version, and when Google updates it your phone will then replace your hacked maps with the original again.

Madmatt I suspect it's more an issue of the app using shared libraries or something like that. If the hacked one isn't the same as the original then there would probably be issues.

thanks for this. works awesomely and recently two garmins decided to grow legs and walk out the house. now to find a usb car charger for my desire...
