Google Maps speedometer now rolled out for iPhone

I quickly tested on CarPlay - Speedometer works but no speed-limit (like Waze, with current speed vs limit).
Maybe still coming or just not available in this particular neck of the back streets, in Sothern Suburbs, CTN.

I saw it on as I was driving yesterday (on Apple carplay) and I wondered when it was rolled out.

I still don’t have the option, and my app is up to date (meaning I cannot update it in the App store)…so very curious how some of you have it already?

I know features are generally rolled out gradually but thought it was perhaps country based?

Hmm, I assume you've done the obvious and checked the navigation settings to find the option. If not, then I guess it's by user, and not country based, which I would also have assumed.

I drove to work today and reverted to Waze - it's pointless, for me at least, to have the speedometer without the speed limit warning. Waze does both. Google Maps, for me at least, only shows the Speedometer and there's no visible or audible alarm when you exceed the limit, like with Waze.

I use Discovery Insure with the little sensor in the car, which penalises me when I exceed the limit, so it's important for me, over and above the obvious safety issues!

Just checked on my iPhone, the speedometer option is still not there. I verified that I have the latest version (6.124.1.73440) of Google Maps installed. I also have the latest version of IOS installed on my phone. I went to Settings then Navigation. Then down to Map Display. The option to toggle it on or off should be there, but nothing on my iPhone.

These fscken assholes (Google) said it was available for Android ,must be like a year or two ago. Never see the speedo on Android Auto, despite multiple requests to them. Yes, it shows, while using Google maps on the phone.

It's hilarious that they don't support their own platforms so well. They should learn from Apple .

Anyway, use Waze when travelling to different(new areas) at least that app works even if the map looks like crap

I mean this is gonna sound silly, but doesn't your car have a functioning speedometer? I could understand this for a bike

My car speedometer doesn’t show me what the speed limits are.

Ah that makes a difference, my car beeps at me when I do go over, but it's still got built in sat nav

Yes, it’s handy to see my speed, the speed limit, speed cameras and to know when I am over. Especially in the South cape.

And in addition, Speedo on car doesn't reflect true speed. With waze, on this current car I have , when car is showing doing 130km/h for example, true speed is only 122km/h. Means no traps. Haven't received a speeding fine using this methodology.
