Google Maps Street View coming to SA

yay, then maybe we can have a chance to see what our inner cities look like too
and we can play "spot the taxi violation"
 
I wish they would update their satellite imagery for SA, it's years out of date.
 
Great news! We are always complaining how "neglected" we are is this part of the woods - things are finally happening :D

Are we the first country in Africa to get this??
 
Unfortunately the guys who handled the PR for this sent me an email with their press release WITHOUT explaining where they got my email address from. If they got it from Google I'm going to be very pissed off. I hate spam!

The email came from Rishon Chimboza <[email protected]> and the PR company is Africa Practice Tel: +27 011 022 6561

He "wasn't in the office" when I called to complain, but they gave me his cell phone number. Let's see if he responds to my complaint, or I may have to blog about it.

Yeah, maybe. But they still won't break in unless they know what they're likely to face when they get in.
 
they'd really be wasting their time roaming the neighbourhoods - in fact should they?

not sure if I would be spending my measly 3Gb data looking at the street view of Joburg? :erm:

Ummm, last time I checked the N3 didn't exactly go near Pretoria

I dot live in that area. all i know is that a friend traveling from Durban to Pretoria told me he spotted the google car while heading to pretoria. He was passing the Wilge plaza toll when he saw it. I do not live in the area and so reported what I was told. heading from Durban along n3 toward Pretoria. Appologies for the mistake..
 
Google Earth South Africa -- INACCURATE

Well judging by all the misplaced image links on GE for SA I will be somewhat suprised if this all works out accurately. :confused:

How many armed guards will they have when they travel through some of the townships?

Sounds like a good idea and all, but how private will it stay?
