Google Nexus 4

mmm R4700 vs $250 (+S&H)....

It's a really good deal, I think...

but moto x ≠ nexus
so you saying they will delay the nexus line to after xmas and miss out on the big rush/hype like they had with N4?

Agreed, but Google need to give the Moto X some traction (considering their investment into Motorola). That won't happen if they bring out another Nexus.

Then again- with the price drop of the Nexus 4, something new might be on the horizon...

Heh, I'm actually upgrading from a Gnex.

I was originally planning to hold off upgrading until next year - get the Moto X or the next Nexus, whatever it's called. But then the price drop was announced, and I just happen to have a friend in the US who is visiting South Africa in two weeks, and I was like, screw it, this is happening.

Could be this:
There is an issue with the proximity sensor on the top left corner and some of screen protectors. The phone thinks you have it already on your ear, but the reason why is the screen protector is triggering the sensor

Solutions in order of preference

1. Pull off the screen protector on the top left corner ,and use some sharp grooming scissors to cut a small semi circle off the part of the protector that is covering the sensor. Then stick the protector back on.
2. Your phone is fsked, and you need to get a new one. Pls send the phone to me, so I can dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.
3. Don't be such a cheapskate, and buy a decent protector that is designed properly for your phone. These fong Kong ones are kind of generic

By the way 1 worked for me

I've had the above issue happen randomly on both the GNex and N4, I don't use cases or protectors. I keep the phone in my pants pocket and I think it has something to do with maybe static or the screen being confused. The screen just basically goes touch-dead, so you can see the call is waiting and there's an animation to accept the call but the screen doesn't register any input, but when you hit the power button to turn the screen off and on everything is fine.

So, instead of buying another bumper, I ended up purchasing this:

Going for R215 from Takealot. They have a number of colours too...

So my pouch came today. Wow, it is gorgeous, soft and looks really good. it is also way slimmer than the conventional cases and bumpers. It adds literally no heft to the device, even when in pocket. I am most impressed, and will definitely buy another one.

I recommend this to any Nexus 4 owner, you will not regret this.

Also, anyone using the latest Franco kernel? Flashed it last night, and left the device overnight (+- 7 hours) and no loss of battery percentage at all when I got up this morning. Sync was disabled though.

Any of you folks have experience in repairing the digitizer for the nexus 4?

Ordered mine from Esquire a few months ago, and it slipped out of my pocket a few days after getting it, cracking the glass in front of the screen. Touch input is gone. Tried for ages to get Esquire to help me, but they are less than F**** useless.

Using a Z10 atm, but jeez, this thing is no comparison to the N4. I'm in JHB, anywhere local that has stock to repair?

I was going to buy roux's phone that also had a cracked screen and do a diy
but even for the ridiculously cheap price he offered it to me for, it didnt seem like it was worth the hassle to do a diy
the complete replacement screen was expensive and the chances were slim of getting away with just a front glass replacement
