Google Nexus 4

Yeah I don't begrudge him anything. I have no doubt he'll sell them at that price. People are desperate for this phone; I should know. Hell, I'd probably be buying it at that price myself if I had no other option!

True true, well i paid R6600 for the Galaxy Nexus so technically i'd be paying less for a better phone...hmm...:love:Nexus 4:love:

Having had it that long (and I'm guessing a year, by that price) I can understand the eagerness to bump up - especially with the current pricing from Google.

Yep, I bought it from Samsung Vodaworld the day they had stock.

Honestly though I can't really justify actually buying a Nexus 4 because my Galaxy Nexus is holding up really good, no major drops so no scratches and I don't even have a cover for it, other than my left pocket...and I have Android 4.2 now...so do I REALLY need a Nexus 4....umm nope

And i still get questioned as to what phone it is and how good it looks :p

Although I get asked if it's a Galaxy 3 and even an iPhone once...

I wouldn't argue there. I have a Galaxy Note, which honestly, I love. But I am 100% done with Samsung and their software updates. I'm tired of waiting 5 months for a bloated copy of the newest Android version.

I'd probably trade my Note for a good-condition GalNex.

Wouldn't you know it, I have a Galaxy Nexus going for R6250!!!!

Yeah - I was in the same boat as yourself currently - wanting to flog my GNex (of 1 month :D ) for the N4.
But then I took a step back - starting reading up and drawing comparisons to the Gnex and the hardware specs are pretty similar.
Dual core vs Quad Core can be raised - but I reckon I'd be very happy to have the GNex for another year.
No lag at all (and I started on 4.1.2) and its just an all round pleasure.

So the 3.5k I would've used on the N4 - I'm looking at spending on a Nexus10 :D

LoL ^ :D

Ya I agree, I'll hold off go the Galaxy4 (if I can get stock Android on there) and then maybe the Nexus 5...

I WAS eyeing the Note 2 but I'm scared of how it'll effect my image. One of my colleagues has the Note and seems to get a lot of people staring at him...in a bad way. :D

Colleague also has the Note - 1st one - still looks too large in hand for me.
Not a fan of them.

Yeah I think its because Telus LTE operates on a similar (or same) band to GSM so it can work somehow. Most LTE is 700mhz (or something).

Yeah it's got the LTE modem in because it's based on the LG Optimus G. There is however, no amplifier or antenna for it (Speaking from memory here -- could be something else). It'll probably only work if you have ample coverage anyways.

Well, its done. The phone is ordered and paid for. Should be in my friends grubby hands on Tuesday. I also asked him to get one of these:

Man, it is going to be a HELLUVA long couple of weeks!

Oh wow that's quite nice. It's a very interesting case, I've never seen one of those before. I was worried about putting the phone down and it scratching the back. And you don't want to up get a case that hides the back of the phone!

Very cool :)

Confirmed that LTE works on the Google Nexus for the 700 or 2100MHz bands. Just need to software enable it.

http://techcrunch.com/2012/11/23/how-to-enable-4g-lte-on-the-google-nexus-4/

Reports surfaced this morning that the Nexus 4, Google’s latest flagship Android smartphone, supports LTE via a relatively easy software hack. After testing, it turns out that’s definitely true, so I’ll show you exactly how to enable it on your device. Fair warning: the Nexus 4 only supports LTE on the AWS band (1700 or 2100MHz), which is currently used for LTE networks in Canada, and for some areas served by T-Mobile’s fledgling 4G network.

Vodacom and MTN are on the 1,800MHz , while Cell C will use 2,100MHz for LTE. So this will only work on CellC. Still possibly a reason for CellC to bring the phone to SA.

Plus they have cheap data....come on CellC.

I've put my iPhone 4 on gumtree to try to pay for this and I'm making some decent progress. So I think I'll get the 8GB model on ebay. The 16GB is so much more expensive, wow. Do you guys think 8GB will be enough? I'll only need my recently added songs on it, and I don't play many games, except for the odd very casual game.

Honestly, I'm finding it a bit of a stretch with 16GB on my GNex.

Available 3.69GB
Apps 741MB
Pics and Vids 2.23GB
Music 6.01GB
Downloads 345MB
Cached Data 345MB
Misc 128MB

As you can see - music takes up most of my space - I can't have enough music.
I've got 2 seasons of "Its always sunny in Phillidelphia" which accounts for most of my videos.
As for movies, I watch and then delete.
I'd prefer to stockpile more vids, but don't wanna cramp up the SD card.

So I don't think that I, personally would be able to cope with an 8GB version.
Also - I haven't even started getting the 800Mb to 1GB games yet on my handset.
