Google Nexus 5

Hahahahaha its more than just a slight difference , Samsung runs on a octa core for example (one of their models) that can still hardly open an application without a delay it's ridiculous.... N5 so far for me has been the best android iv ever owned and that's from the line of .... Galaxy tab, galaxy s2, s3, s4

Got the Nexus 5 today. It's absolutely awesome. Got an OTA update as soon as I switched on the device. It's super smooth. Animations and transitions are very smooth and everything is instant. Very impressed. It's noticeably faster and snappier than my S4.

im alweddy in love with "stock andriod' compared to "skinned" andrioid versions.
im very temped to get the N5 over the LG G2.

how camera quality?

like i mentioned, im new to andriod. had iphones, blackberry's and windows 8 lumia 920.
does the UI that comes customized from a manufacturer like LG n Sumsung really affected performance that much that its very noticeable eg. on N5?

I'm new to Android too but most reviewers online seems to prefer stock Android.

Then again, there are many happy Samsung S4 users too so it can't be all bad.

Many happy s4 users because look who they are and who samsung aim the devices at...if someone didn't want to learn the rops and tricks to android their market entry with a Samsung is high due to the skin it offers and that makes many happy alone they don't care about the ram it packs or the benchmarks it can do...

Its simple look at the advertising google does and the advertising Samsung does....Google knows who they build phones for stock android lovers and yet it still sells out in the masses with I think Max 5 different media adverts that they have compared to samsungs ....again coming down to the fact that Samsung sells the stuff that people think they want.....stock android tells you tho how useless that stuff actually is

Battery today with 5h:30min on screen time

Arrr these damm forum permissions piss me off when trying to upload a picture

I would say the LG G2. But the price difference is big.
Also, sometimes the bloat is quite useful. For example, there is no easy way of syncing with outlook on stock android, but Samsung allows you to do that.

This review gives you an idea of apps included : http://www.techcentral.co.za/lgs-g2-smartphone-reviewed/44679/

Battery life is a huge issue with me, and the G2 wins hands down ther

Huh ? How can there be no way of syncing with stock android ? Stock android supports exchange syncing...

I specifically didn't mention anything about exchange, I said outlook. And cloud based syncing is not counted, As some of my accounts are pop3

Ur knowledge is great with email I see...do you know the difference between exchange and outlook ? A server and a client situation...but then again I see why they make the bloatware apps for some people.

Well, I have only been in IT for 20 years, thats when we used to use Mosaic for browsing, elm and pine for email, there was a cool thing called gopher, most companies didn't even know what the internet was, and 98% of users were at university.

When I add a contact or calendar entry on my outlook, I may want to sync it with my phone/tablet without going online.....as I might be travelling and so will have no cloud access. The same with the new / changed entries on my phone, might be useful to have them on my computer. Please advise the process you would use to do that for your nexus 5?

I have worked with TouchWiz, HTC Sense and Stock Android. I must say TouchWiz adds alot of functionality that I never used where as Stock I used everything. HTC Sense was also very close to Stock.

Then again that's me.

I've only ever had HTC Sense on my old Desire HD..really enjoyed it initially - it had a lot of features that weren't in stock Android (2.2 when I got my DHD) at that time such as selecting text and copy pasting, social network integration with contacts and two extra home screens.

But with slow pace of updates and HTC eventually deciding to stop updating the DHD it got really annoying - and now Android has gotten to a point where I feel the stock features are better than the ones manufacturers add afterwards..but that's just my personal preference.

I used to listen to Engadet's mobile podcast and at one stage they suggested a HTC One X running Stock Android but official stock. Luckily we have it now with the One and the S4. I'm just hoping they start making more flagships running Stock Android.

So, you want an Android device to perform an offline-sync with a Microsoft-owned desktop mail client? Not even Windows Phone does that.

Or why not have the best of both worlds? :)

The Nexus 5 is exactly the same phone as the LG G2, albeit the budget version, and I reckon it won't be long before they have an official Android 4.4 ROM for the G2.

So, if you can live with LG's skin for a while, you might get rewarded with a pure Android experience in the end. ;)
