Google Nexus 5

I dont be seem to get LTE here? Or am I not suppose to

It could be that your phone doesn't support your operator's LTE bands. See this post from earlier by mith.

"1.) Model selling on the USA playstore where I and am sure many others bought theirs is the North American (D820) model:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

The model selling in UK/AUS play stores is the Rest of World (D821) model:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20

You may have an issue with LTE use only. I use Cell C and use 3g, hsdpa etc and no problems."

Slightly OT but I have found on my S4 that both those options are causing massive wakelocks and draining the battery badly, done a factory reset as well as a fresh Odin install and I always end up with the same problem. So back OT who has those options enabled and are you finding Google Services & Android OS skyrocketing in battery usage?

They do, regardless of your device.

Just a update on this but I disabled "Use wireless networks" in Location Services and my wake locks have dropped considerably. I found this by some Googling and got to this post:

Andrew Dodd has a interesting idea behind nlp collector wake locks:

NLP = Network Location Provider I think.

My guess is this is the process that tries to collect data on where wifi networks unknown to Google are located. I think it tries to get a GPS lock and if it continually fails, it wakelocks.

It's annoying - The Play Services updates announced at I/O were supposed to reduce power consumption by location services, but my experience has been increased location service power consumption.

Below his post another member advises disabling the use wireless option.

So there you go. Anyone having high wake locks try that and see if you have an improvement.

just an update on my battery life;
Been using the phone for close to two weeks now, initially my battery life wasn't great (about 2hrs screen on time) but it seems its got much better over time... on Saturday I got 4hrs 50min screen on time with everything on (gps, wifi, bluetooth, 2 email accounts on push, location reporting and history, brightness on auto..the only thing that I keep off is NFC)..and my battery was at 10%.

Damn that's great. What level of location reporting you using? I've noticed that Google play services is starting to drain my battery.

All interested, don't you think it a good idea to ask uncle rpm to get some of these devices to sell to his "followers"? I am sure he has some connections

Woo hoo my N5 is waiting for me at the post office. Of course typically I'm away on business. Something to look forward to I suppose...

The actual cost of getting the phone here has been a little more than I expected. The bank took their pound of flesh in the international transaction, the international postage and clearing was a couple hundred bucks (I insured the package which added about R200 but worth it if you ask me) and now we wait and see how badly customs will rape me.

If I do order some more (only after mine arrives safely) it wouldn't be for profit. I just want to cover my costs and help out. The dam Google account system kicked me out a few times, but I think I finally have it fooled!

Oh, I should add that you can get the US version slightly cheaper. I was tempted, but I figure that if I'm forking out a couple gorilla's I might as well get an LTE compatible version.

o wise stoozak pls share ur secrets!! how did u fool the Google account system?

So I thought this isn't too bad pricing :) Little expensive but what can you do :)

I phoned them today enquiring if they will be stocking the 32GB version. The guy sounded very optimistic that they are indeed looking into it though he cannot give any clear ETA or pricing, other than closer to the festive season or early next year depending on stock availability. He also indicated it is the EU model (D821) which they are getting.

Works out to about R6500 per device (32GB), but it should work. Just waiting for US Unlocked to sort out my card.

I wonder that if the Orange deal can offer a 32Gb at R7000, is it still going to be worth it considering you will then have a local warranty?

I expect there will be a Nexus 5 2014 edition by January or Feburary next year.

Let's face it, the battery life on this phone is terrible. Been reading reports/user opinions/feedback from a few sources, and it looks like Google has skimped on the wrong hardware this time.

Are you referring to the battery that they used?

Wrong hardware such as ? Just the speaker ? That's the only bit of kit slacked on the battery was limited due to the devices size factor and personally I'm fine with my battery get more and a full day on if

Doubt there will be a complete new revision

Are you referring to the battery that they used?

Correct.

They could have at least used a 2600mAh battery (like in the Galaxy S4), or what about the G2's 3000mAh battery?

But no, instead they opted for a 2300mAh battery, which I suspect, is from an older phone.

Update : Looks like LG went with the battery they used for the LG G Pro Lite. It's a 3140mAh.
