Google Nexus 5

Not sure how you got to the "outperforms" part because they both have the same SOC.

Comment was based on my own experience, possibly "outperform" is not the best choice of word, I noticed not a single difference in actual performance, neither device seemed to edge the other one, although the S4 LTE running GE has a lot more 'features' going for it than the N5. What experience do you have comparing these two devices side by side? (I'm talking S4 LTE running pure GE - not run of the mill S4). Basically, the cheaper price tag was not enough to motivate me to downgrade from my custom S4 to the N5.

In rigged benchmark testing, yes.

I've never done a benchmark test on my vanilla S4. I think I may have done one on my first Android device (S2) as I began to learn about the OS, but not bothered since.

Day to day? A different story altogether...

Hehe

Dude settle down. I objected to the notion that it "outperforms" the Nexus. That is all.

If, by your own admission, you " noticed not a single difference in actual performance" how did you arrive at the conclusion that the S4 "outperforms" the N5. :what: Consider also that they have the same chip.

I have no experience comparing two devices side by side because that would be futile and un scientific. What ever conclusions I draw from such an undertaking would be unreliable and anecdotal and therefore invalid especially considering that I will be attempting to measure performance differences that are micro seconds apart.

I always thought people would fight over iOS vs Android, never thought I'd saw guys arguing over two similar Android phones :p

Haha, wow, that's rich :D
Pots and kettles and all that.

I was hell bent on the N5 based on all the reports in this thread, there are countless posts making it out to be the most amazingist phone ever. I realized it's not all that when compared to a specific model S4 running vanilla. Simple. Nothing to do with "fanboy", no argument, it's my opinion.

It's a pity I didn't get my hands on an N5 before I got the i9505, I have no doubt I would have loved it. Now that I had a chance to compare both, I certainly prefer the extras the S4 LTE has to offer over the N5. My wife has a standard S4 with touch wiz, I can barely operate the thing with the same speed or ease I do a vanilla rom. It's ghastly.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for the N6.

:D

So I heard you are not going to sell the Nexus anymore. Are you still pining for that red one?

I am, but thankfully I get to keep my white one for now...

Hence the tongue-in-cheek. :)

Not all that is far removed from being outperformed by the S4 LTE, though. FWIW- this is more to do with how far Android has become as an OS, than anything else. Nothing wrong with the S4 LTE, was always my preference of the Samsung devices.

Which extras are you referring to?

Guess better late than never. Esquire just got stock of the Nexus 5 for about R4999 ex Vat. Not sure what colors at this point in time. They just got them in and released the pricing. Sauce

Oh yes ... I forgot their prices are excluding VAT (and I didn't read the small lettering on the top right section of the ad)

R5700 is still not bad. And I would rather get the one from Esquire (32GB) or import myself than put up with the incompetence I encountered with Orange. What I would like to know, however, is how Esquire would treat the warranty. Google has a no nonsense replacement policy (as far as I know), but I fear that Esquire might pull the usual "lemme fix that for ya" attitude.

Yeah, important question. And based on many people on here's experience with them... :erm:
