The screen size will be fine if the bezels are razor thin. My 5.5" OnePlus One is a good size but has average bezels. You could maintain the physical dimensions with a larger screen. If such a Nexus device existed with a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, 32/64GB storage, 3200mAh battery etc. it would basically be the perfect phone currently possible. My only concern would be the QHD resolution. 1080p is perfectly fine for phones and is kinder to battery life.

1) 5.9" is ridiculous. Why not have 2 Nexus phones with different sizes? This is moving way beyond rational usage for most people's needs. I thought the whole point of Nexus programs was for Google to show off the most ideal hardware for the software.
2) I'll start caring much more when they get a decent camera into one of these things.

1. Agreed. I hope that they have a two model Nexus line. We've never had a Nexus phablet before, so it would be interesting to see the uptake. Perhaps they'll launch a smaller model later on to prevent cannibalization of the Nexus 6's sales.
2. It's the same camera module as found in the iPhone 6, with a smaller sensor but larger megapixel count. I'm hoping that the improved Camera API in Android L helps to improve the generally poor standard of photos that Nexus devices as a whole capture.

But QHD with a Snapdragon 805 is able to get pretty good battery life. I do agree that 1080p is perfectly fine, though.

There's a big difference between 4.7-5.2" 1080 and 5.9" 1080. If you're going to scale up to that size I think qHD is justified.

Hmmm, it doesn't look too big here. I'm starting to buy more into this, but I suppose that my previous experience with a Note 2 might be helping...

Hmmm, a thought occured to me, as to why this device is a bit bigger than before- Android Wear smartwatches.

A bigger screen is something that is very underappreciated, and when you use it, you appreciate the extra size. The main criticisms leveled at such a device would be one handed operation and ease of pocketability.

Android Wear smartwatches remedies those issues somewhat. When synced with your Android Wear smartwatch, you will be taking your phone out a lot less to check notifications (killing two birds with one stone), negating the concerns of pocketability somewhat as well as not subjecting the user to one of the major UX elements that one handed operation covers- pulling down the notification shade. All you need to do is check your wrist, and if it is an important notification, you can take out your device and respond where necessary anyway.

Apple may have a similar thought process in mind by having an iPhone 6 Plus that has better specs than the iPhone 6. It's meant to be coupled with Apple Watch to give you the best all round experience.

I am leaning towards that assessment too, but I dont think the smart watches are there yet. I also would like to see the physical dimensions of this phone when it comes out before I comment on size.

Well, I suppose that is true, but they need to do something to push smartwatches as a viable extension of our smartphones. This could be a way, even if it isn't very direct.

Yeah I was having similar thoughts funnily enough just now. I do get the advantage of having a screen that size and all - for me it's all about reading full books or longform articles on; you just can't compare it with an iPhone size. But then I had the wife's iPhone in my hand and I remembered how much more comfortable it is just to hold. Your hand never feels stretched out or uncomfortable with the iPhone, and that's a real factor. But if you could pair the 5.9" phone with a watch and offload all the petty phone-y stuff to the watch interface, it could possibly work. Especially for me if I could use the watch when in the gym with a bluetooth headset, I'd be over the moon. Of course, for me an iPhone 6+ with an Apple Watch would be the combo to die for but hey... I've got kids :l
