Google Nexus One in SA

Have to admit, at the price quoted in the article.
It really seems like a blerry bargain! :D

Just wish we could get it without having to get someone to send it to us...

it works out to R5000 about without shipping...

you get shop any american store to order the cellphone from amazon... then they ship it to you! voila

Then there's also the import taxes to worry about, which could really kick you in the butt when you ship it.

It completely defeats the purpose of getting your hands on the phone if you have to buy it through VC/VF. The phone will come out costing more than R10k, when you expect no more than R5k.

The only way this phone will be of any use in SA is if you buy it in another country where Google ships to, and then bring it over yourself.

That is awesome price for something as well speced as this! Even if it does get the green light for SA it will take way to long till you can get it. Called Vodacom just now to confirm if they will have a Nokia X6 for me next week when I upgrade and they did not have a clue what phone I was talking about :(

Anyone understand the implications of this sentence:

There is however one challenge: As there is no APN, accessing the Google suite of services may not be possible, unless the users are tech savvy enough to install their own APN.

  1. What is an APN?
  2. Will we all need to install an APN?
  3. Where do we get an APN?
  4. How do we install an APN?

1. Access Point Network ie the settings to connect to the internet.
2. Yes, if you want to connect to the internet or internet related services.
3. From your Service Provider, or just copy it from your old phone.
4. Usually under browser settings --> Add APN.

APN

The APN config does not seem like too much trouble...
