I just spoke to HTC and they reckon that both Google phones, the G1 and HTC Magic, will be here in May!

my whole life is already run by Google. That's why I'll get one - resistance is futile!

well we will see what the OS is like. I wish we could get this os on to one of our current HTC so we can mess around but don't think there is a way to do it as such well if there is please inform me and tell me how to do it

Just in time for my upgrade! Which one is the best, the G1 or the HTC Magic?

@labratza, the os has been available for download to play with and develop apps for a long time

So far the only one that come with it is the 2 mentioned above.

However, it is based on linux so with some effort I think you will be able to load them on linux compatible devices

From everything I've seen and heard these phones are great. The G1 is the earlier version but it has a slide out keyboard which I like. The Magic is newer and faster. Hmmm choices choices.

I love that there's no Apple lock-in nonsense - freedom. Ahhh. Besides, some of the apps look awsome.

Just FYI:

HTC announced that they are going to release FOUR Android-based phones this year, so maybe rushing in and buying one of these 'older' phones is not such a good idea. ;)

NO, I upgrade in may, I don't think I can wait any longer

I was due for an upgrade 5 months ago. First I was waiting for my contract to expire so I could port to Vodacom and get an iPhone 3g. Then I started waiting for the Android phones.

So I'm also not waiting any longer... well - I wouldn't be waiting if any of the Voda Shops or Vodacom Direct would actually start selling the darned phones to the public. I've called so many times that they shops are starting to recognise my voice. :(

hmm, my upgrade is in October on voda... I guess I'll have to wait, the Magic looks much better than the dream IMO but I've read reviews on a dodgy accelerometer but an improved touch screen on it.

Anyway, the phones can only get better (I think) as I wait. I'd be hesitant to get an android phone now tho. As much as the software is gonna be around and supported, the prospect of being tied to a hardware flaw for a 2 year contract scares the sh*t outta me!

I cant say anything about the magic but the G1 is superbly ugly looking phone.

good luck, if they are anything like their search engine it will be riddled with problems

When oh when will these phone be released

I have been waiting for the Dream/Magic since thier launch in November. I was starting to sound like a stuck record to my colleagues already, saying " i heard the Android phones are coming to SA next month". Even now, they said they will release by mid May, now its the 28th and still no phones, and whats worse nobody can tell you anything in the stores, "sorry i only work here". And when they finally get here, they are soooo damn expensive, i cant afford one, aaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhhh, so frustrating dealing with third class customer service in SA!

The magic looks like an absolutely amazing phone. It looks beautiful (unlike the G1), is slick and intuitive. Every review i've seen rave about it (search for HTC magic on youtube)

The Gateway, Umhlanga Vodashop (the one upstairs past Dion Wired) is offering a 'financed' deal: Business talk 120 (R185pm) + R80pm for the Magic! Mine is on backorder!
