Google shuts down new Burger King ad

Serves Burger King right, although the exposure they've received - priceless.

Ja what is the big deal?
I don't watch ads especially for junk foods that I have no intention of ever consuming.
Still intrigued to know why this ad invokes the wrath of the biggest ad company the world has ever encountered.

????

Ad was flighted on TV and includes the words "OK Google" which activate home devices like Amazon Echo and Google Home. These devices control lights, home alarms, sound volume etc.

Clever dick Burger King develop the most intrusive known to mankind - in my opinion of course.

P.S. irritating to have to say it's my opinion :( :(

It is because it triggers the voice activated device from Google. So they made an add saying "ok google, what is a whopper" which will activate that google device at home for whoever owns it and it'll start telling you what a whopper is.

There was a similar incident with the Amazon Echo, where the activation keyword is "alexa" and some kid went "alexa, i want a dollhouse" and the device proceeded to order a dollhouse on amazon. Now where it gets so funny, the story was repeated on the news and the news reader saying "alexa, i want a dollhouse" activated a bunch of people's echos who happened to be hearing the news report to do the same thing....

So yea, burger king tapped into that, and because it is a google device, google blocked it for obvious reasons ;)

I know Amazon has in the meantime added more "Activation phrases" which you can customize , replacing "Alexa" , but Google might not be there yet.

Much like the Kinect launch where the guy presenting said something like "Xbox, shutdown" :D

I mean Bruce Whitefield does it a couple of times in his radio show hell shout OK Google or Hey Siri! Smile FM also does it.

Thanks for the explanations much appreciated!

Just re-inforced my dislike for anything automatic and why voice activation and smart devices in my home will never be connected to the Internet.

Haha, so google doesn't have voice recognition and they seriously didn't see this coming? :crylaugh:

They actually do have voice recognition but not the home units as they are supposed to be used by anyone that is in the house, unlike your phone. The latest Android phones learns your voice and actually ignore other people's "Ok Google" promps.

I reckon Burger King did more than "hack" the device, they hacked the media. I mean look at how much media cover they getting now, vs an ad that had a limited run for no extra cost.
