Google to launch Android O on 21 August

I am still on Android 6, no update to 7 yet, and we are going to see 8 shortly.
I wish Google would take control of the updates on Android devices, so we can get the latest software when it is released.

I know this has been discussed to death already but seriously latest OS only seem to bother us tech savvy people and for us there is root&flash.

My only gripe is sec Patches and they seem to have addressed that to a degree. What they should do is make sec patches mandatory to OEM's for all devices less that 2 years old.

I hope my S8 gets this or I'm going to have to root and I am not a fan of it coz it brings problems

It's gonna be so hawt, users are gonna get O faces. Marketing done right.

While the OS upgrade is important in terms of security patches, going from one version of Android to another isn't such a big deal. Most of the Google apps are already on the Play Store and updated frequently, very independent of the OS.

It bothers me and I lost interest in flashing + rooting a long time ago.

Alternatively, you can take control and manually flash custom firmware. LineageOS is awesome.

It's a very safe bet that Samsung's current flagships are going to get Oreo. It might just take a long time, but that's something to expect if you've bought into the Samsung life. Their firmware is quite detached from vanilla Android, which takes time to add to new versions of Android. It also means there's less reason to be concerned with major Android updates, as Samsung is so different. May as well just assume any changes in future firmware will be minor, and enjoy the phone as is.

Custom firmware really isn't much of a mission. Unlocking the bootloader (if necessary) is a once-off step, flashing a custom recovery is done with the stock recovery, then just use the custom recovery to flash a root package, erase the phone, flash custom firmware and Google apps and clear the caches again.

After that the firmware can update itself. Pretty easy.

And if you really don't want to or you have a phone that isn't supported by LineageOS, don't buy a phone that is likely to be behind the curve if it's that important to you.

Yay looking forward. Waits for notification :p

Well I checked now on Update Center, and these is a 545Mb update available. Not Android O, but something that was not there a week ago. :D

Im using Resurrection Remix on the OnePlus ONE (yes i said OnePlus One) :D , and its basically like a new beast of a phone. Battery life is awesome, some great features, and really buttery smooth running Android 7.1.2
