You are right, but you need to look at Google's timeline.

In 1995-1997, Google was still BackRub.com. They only registered the domain Google.com in 1997.

The actual Google as we know it, only launched in 1998. In this year they started renting a Silicon Valey garage, they became the best search engine, they incorporated, got their first investor, so, Google was actually only born in 1998.
