Google's YouTube app / RTSP Streaming

During Vodacom's free internet promotion I tried out a load of new apps on my Nokia N95 to take advantage of the 25MB free data.

One that I couldn't get working correctly was Google's Mobile YouTube app.
I can browse and search through videos, but as soon as I try and watch one it reports a connection error.

Requirements: You must have a compatible web browser on your mobile phone and access to the internet. The YouTube mobile site m.youtube.com requires a phone that supports RTSP streaming and is on a service carrier which permits streaming videos. Please see our help center pages for more information.

Does Vodacom support RTSP streaming and what must one do to get it activated?
 
I believe there streaming settings, but i'm not sure what they are. Never set it up before. All i can remember is of the N95 when you tried streaming videos from Vlive, it used that Realplayer on the N95. By default it had the proxy on with some settings, i switched it off and it streamed the media from Vlive.

Not sure if its related though. Maybe VodacomData can provide the streaming settings for Vodacom?
 
The only thing that can be configured in the YouTube app is the access point, is there something that needs to be switched on on Vodacom's side? I looked under services on Vodacom4me, but couldn't see anything that I could enable that seemed related.

This thread seems to imply that there was once a problem with Vodacom's caching/proxy servers.

I tried accessing Youtube Mobile (without much hope that it would work) on an LG KS360. I wasn't surprised when it didn't work on my prepaid sim using airtime. Loaded a data bundle and it still didn't work. Put in my contract sim with no bundle and it didn't work.

About a week or so later I happened to click on a link (with contract sim in) and Youtube Mobile worked. Tried my prepaid sim, and worked with and without a bundle loaded.

Been working ever since but seems to work better with my contract sim (no bundle and more costly) than with my prepaid sim (bundle and cheaper) :D

Might be my sim cards tho.

Prepaid is the old 4U sims from 2001 and contract sim is only a few months old.

Edit 1: I didn't change any settings. "On device" and "phone as modem" always worked.
Maybe I'm just lucky.

Edit 2: Ok I tried accessing Youtube Mobile (via Google) now after posting and and Google says my device is not supported.
Tried accessing it via m.youtube.com and couldn't play any videos ("Content Too Large"). But it seems to work if I browse m.youtube.com from Opera Mini and click "Watch Video" which buffers and opens up the video and voila ...

Definitely something not right here.

Using the 'internet' APN with proxy settings the YouTube Mobile app instantly gives me a connection error, but accessing m.youtube.com with my phone's built-in browser will play the video.

Using the 'unrestricted' APN with no proxy settings the YouTube Mobile app works mosts of the time, occasionally it gives a connection error after trying for a few seconds.

Hi

This is not network related as i tested it on 2 5800`s and both worked after installing the app that youtube wanted me to download.

I also tested this on a BB 8310 no adjustment to settings and on n85 as well as HTC.

Could it be dependent on location?
 
The YouTube Mobile app has been working fine on my Nokia N95 using the Wap.Vodacom settings in various locations around the country since about 2009/10/01.

@VD: If you did something to fix this, thanks!
