Got My N73 !

I would actually have thought the N73 would go for much less , considering the K800 is free already on the weekender. For some people who don't really care for all the specs, the K800 would be the definite choice because of price difference. In my opinion if Nokia wants to compete in the camera phone arena, they have to consider price as well.

Lets say the average SA citizen walks into Vodashop and see's:
SE k800 (3 megapixels) = Free
Nokia N73 (3 megapixels) = R1399 extra

the choice is simply the K800.

Even amongst the phone guru's there is some discussion of which phone is better. I would just like to know why Nokia's are just so much more expensive?

LOL Symbian licences are expensive!
Btw... CHeck my post, SE bought over UIQ and they own 20% of Symbian!!
Yay!!;)

And to the other guy, the resolution is higher on the K800 because of the smaller screen!;)

I found the following reviews of the N73 helpful: http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=2766&source=BROWSER and http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n73-review-106.php The first sentence of the latter review reads as follows: "Being the best equipped handset ever Nokia N73 has managed to overrun the king of all mobiles - the slider Nokia N80."

Although Ihave not found it at the two Vodashops I have checked in Durban, or on Vodacomdirect.co.za I see it being advertised in a Vodacom4u brochure as being free on TAlk 120, Talk 240 and Business call. The ad says "Exclusively 4u" but must surely come into the Vodacom mainstream as well?

That sentence is misleading and somebody should complain that a supposedly unbiased review could yield such a retarded comment like that. How can the N73 be the best equipped handset when it lacks wifi?

Seems to me like those okes got abit too carried away by the excitement of a new model.

So is the N80 the best?
N73 is available.

Ermm in terms of "Being the best equipped handset ever " as that site put it, yes it is. The N73 lacks quite a useful feature in terms of wifi, yet is branded as being the best equipped? Seriously, wtf.

this morning! wow what a phone! AWESOME SCREEN! ITS HUGE!!

nice and sturdy construction, slider mechanism is smooth and snug! and the joystick is just perfect - not too tight or too loose ;)

How is the sound quality thru the fone speakers?

Creaking???

and the build quality of the phone. This was a disadvantage on most reviews I've read thus far. For such an expensive phone, at least the casing shouldn't creak ??? or does it?

Good point. In fact, the reviewer includes these sentences in the conclusion: "Satisfied? You should be. But I know and expect your response: "Where's Wi-Fi?"... Well, nowhere...The absence of Wi-Fi damns the phone... gives it a black point...and may easily be a decisive matter at the moment of purchase."

The Mobileburn reviewer also marks it down from "highly recommended" to "recommended" for the same reason.

Puzzling how Nokia makes their decisions. Seems odd to leave Wi-Fi out of a high end phone like this, and also odd that they left a camera out of a high-end phone like the E60.

Lol you guys are too much!:p

The N73 is not supposed to be better than the N80, see the numbers N73 - N80. The selling point is its not as ugly and awkward like a N80, better cam and video capabilities, wifi's good but maybe thats why its a N73 and not a N81!!

The E61 is like the 9300 no camera because many European countries ban camera phones, especially in the work place, have you seen sales of the 9300? They rather good, infact R800 cheaper than a 9500(with camera) but with higher sales!
Besides every forum Iv been on and everyone I know that has a E61 says the softwares just fine! And for a Nokia thats a compliment!;)

All nokias are good or the best on paper, but you need it in your hand to really decide!;)

So you conceed that it's not supposed to have everything, then why ask this (sarcastic) question earlier:
So is the N80 the best?
PS: I think the N73 is uglier because it's just one large brick with all numerical buttons displayed. The N80 hides the numerical buttons making it look more compact and easier on the eyes. Guess it's a matter of personal taste.

Good, better and best???
Do you need this exercise?

I was responding to the sentence in the article claiming that the N73 was the best due to being the most well equipped handset. Obviously it can't be the best if it lacks wi-fi. How much clearer can I try and make it sound?

Anyway I'm out of this childish debate, you guys decide what's best for you.

Cheers

absolutely no creaking, slider is nice and smooth and slick ;)

Its No Brick

listen guys,

until you have this phone in your hands you are not gonna realise just how attractive this phone really is.. size wise, its little bigger than my old 6610 and very much more compact than my colleagues' N70's and a whole lot more attractive than the N80's in our office, the phone feels smootha and silky to the touch, the "deep plum" is more like a "warm chocolate" which i love..
altho it seems a bit prone to fingerprint marks

i know most of you have not seen this phone besides in pictures on the net, its nowhere to be found in any of the shops (trust me i've looked) i cannot even find a pouch for it... so i would say reserve judgement until such time as you have handled one personally..

as for what is the "best" phone.. i dont think such a phone exists, because guys like nokia and SE will not put all of the features into one phone, they cater to the individuals.. (also they sell more phones lol) the N80 is more connectivity orientated (uPnP & wi-fi) and the N73 is more camera orientated.. the camera is awesome even in low light conditions trust me..

be cool guys :D

lol thanks a lot! and its a pleasure!

here is a link to a pic i took this morning

what do you guys think? not too shabby for a phone hey?
very nice!
I had a look at the N73 last night after seeing this thread... I must say the phone looks awesome, so I will just be doing my normal investigations and see which one is best for me, N80 or N73 ;)

For guys in CT, Nokia shop in Century City, Canal Walk had stock of the phone. This is where I saw it. Selling for R4800. :D

Vodacom shops were out of stock but it is avaiable.

MTN does not have the phone yet and they don't know when it will be available. :(

For anyone interested in comparing, here's one taken by an N80 in low light (after sunset) at 2 megapixels.

Thx H_GP, doesnt look bad. Bit fuzzy some items but that can be expected, not bad all round.
