Got my replacement Samsung Omnia from italk

Eventually after more than 2 weeks of waiting from when they picked up my Out of Box Failed Omnia, just got my replacement Omnia delivered this morning.

But to my surprise, there's broken Samsung original stickers under the sealed sticker 'Do no open if sticker broken by Samsung'. As italk should give out brand new replacement phones, I have taken photos of the serial and sticker of the packaging before I gave italk a call.

There are two explanations:

1) Samsung is selling/giving operators refurbished phones.

2) What italk call consultant told me, they are getting these stock from another supplier, so it could be broken when they repackaged it. Which I think is BS anyway.

The content, accessories, phone inside all looked brand new with the plastics, I would not be surprised if Samsung won't make them look brand new if it's factory re-furb stock.

PS: Sorry if I did not make it clear, there are two Samsung warranty stickers on top of each other, top one is intact but bottom is broken, so it had been re-sealed.

Can any non-italk Omnia owners here (Vodacom contract, prepaid handset) confirm the packaging of your Samsung Omnia.

Do you guys have a colour printed carton outside of the actual box with Red 8G memory card showing on the bottom left corner?

If it was refurbished the package and plastic bags would still be sealed. I have imported quite a few refurbished goods and they come packaged as new in either original packaging or grey box usually with a refurbished sticker on which can be taken off very easily.
 
Well, I can guarantee you one thing. If I get a "new" phone and the box is not sealed I will not accept it.

Most of the time some of the people working at these cellpones stores open the boxes to see what the phones look like and then they play around with it.
 
No ways, new phone, thats been opened. Thats not cool.

Piesang, I know wat you mean. When I worked at Vodacom4me the sales people opened the new phones and used them for a while...
 
The OBF replacement is a brand new phone. Do not accept if the seal is broken.

But there's another Samsung seal on top of Broken seal? Does operators like italk have access to these manufacturer's warranty seals?

I have got photos taken and my colleagues can be my witnesses if there's something wrong again. Telephone conversation with Italk people (they have recordings). Can't wait for them to send it one with no broken seals as I will be flying overseas for holiday on Saturday. Bad service from italk.
 
The problem is that these SP's knows that we (the consumers) dont like to wait for the phones. So if we get it (and the seal is broken) we keep it hoping that nothing will happen to it.
 
Eh, I am getting my Omnia tomorrow, and if the seal is broken, I will be :mad::mad:

That is assuming that they can find the delivery address fine this time... all the other courier companies seem to manage, let's see if our friends at RAM can as well, for a second attempt.

Howsit Cyber,

Exactly the same issue I had. The phone was not used and the seal was resealed with a Samsung seal. Technically, they should have just replaced the damn box and put one sticker on. Having the 2 stickers makes the whole deal look suspicious.
What actually happened is Samsung got a load of units in and had to update the firmware. Unfortunately, they didnt have any spare boxes and just resealed the one they opened. The device should have all it stickers in tact and all the goodies should be in the box. I accepted the unit and have had no issues with it. It will be fine, the box was opened up and resealed only by Samsung. You can be assured its fine, and the unit is brand new

What firmware version are you running? Look under settings->version and it should be i900 something?

This version looked like the same version I got with the first phone, (just confirmed, what I have now is still the same ROM version of my first phone, found my previous post on http://www.modaco.com) and it's the August firmware version (probably the first ROM release), besides all the 'cooked'/'custom' ROM on the net, I am sure they should update the ROM to newer versions (Oct/Nov)? You believe they are updating the newer firmware to August version (the phone was release in August)???

yup, thats it same version. Well, i havent had any issue with it and the device had everything in the box and the stickers were all still on the phone, really looked like it was fine. I've been hammering it the passed 2 weeks and everything ok

I got problem with 3G, not that stable as it does not pick up 3G at home opposed to my dad's i780.

then its probably the 3G coverage in your area, is not so good, i dunno, my 3G works well

He's on Vodacom but I was using his i780 with my Sim as my MTN contract sim won't work in my Cingular 8125.

Now I flashed the latest M2D ROM released in Modaco, reception is better now. Going to play around, very nice interface.

3G Reception gone again........:(

But when I was in North West visiting rural hospitals last week I don't have any problem with signals, but my colleagues with Vodacom/CellC had problem with no reception at one of the place we stayed.
