Got sent two items when I only ordered one

Same thing happened to me a few years back. I could have kept the 2nd fridge that was delivered a week later, but I had to do the right thing and send it back.

Everyone is saying "Send it back". Well the pixies aren't going to take it back, so it's going to cost money. As I said, just tell them you've got it, and they can arrange to collect.

this right here. they might just say, 'sod it, keep it'.

they might say that, but then they made the choice to write it off their books, not the OP.

OP, notify them, and await their response regarding them having the item collected.

Notify them. If they don't pick it up within a month or two....sell it off to recover demurrage

We had the same issue, we ordered a text book online and it was delivered except the stupid person sent us a sealed shrink which happened to include 3 such books. All identical. So we did what any normal person would do kept them and gave the 2 other copies to people who could not afford the books.

I think that was a plus for society.

Contact them and let them know what happened. Then take it from there.
If you want them to always give you the benefit of the doubt as the customer, then you should always give them the benefit of the doubt.

The same thing happened to me last year with Kalahari. Got delivered two of the same items (a watch). Opened and used the one and notified Kalahari re the mistake. Had to email them the second items delivery note.

They came and picked up the second item towards the end of March. Was about to give it to a friend as a gift. :(

But yes let them know and see what they say.

Afterwards although I knew I did the right thing there was no acknowledgement from Kalahari. Not even a thank you from them. So although morally it is the right thing to do, if it happened to me again I have no incentive to repeat the process.
If they come around I'd tell them I didn't know what the delivery was and dropped it in the trash.

Taking that long to collect is pushing it. I'd tell them (by email) that they have 90 days to collect and after that I will dispose of it as I see fit. That way you've given them a fair chance to collect, and there's no grey area of when does it become mine.

even 90 days is too long
7 days imo

That was indeed kind of you, Robin. :)

razer1980, I'm sure you already know what the best course of action is: Call or email the management and let them know what happened. It's up to them to decide and initiate the next step. If they want it back you should not be put to any avoidable trouble or further expense. This means they should collect it rather than asking you to take it to the post office or a courier.

There is not a person on earth who doesn't make mistakes, so not a single one of us can mount a high moral horse and claim title to the fruits of another's innocent mistake.

It matters not a jot whether the supplier is small or large, rich or poor, terrestrial or alien.

The moral decision is yours to make. Treat others as you would have them treat you. As you weigh, so will you be weighed. This is a test of your character, not theirs.

Follow your informed conscience, do the right thing, and let them know.

Very sound advice especially the highlighted parts.

A while back I discovered after walking out of a shop that I had forgotten to pay for items in the bottom basket of my trolley. I debated taking them back, but decided to keep them. My conscience was killing me by the time I got home, so I took them back the next day. So it really is based on your own conscience.

It was a Dell PowerEdge T20 Server that I ordered from Takealot and I did phone them to alert them of their mistake. They are going to come fetch it btw...

Well done lad. Your OP questions made me very concerned? ;)

When I saw the heading, first company I thought about was Takealot.
They must be out hunting for honest people or something. :)
