Government must follow Datacentrix example

Feels like I picked a very bad time to get into IT as a "pale male".

IT, is a very, very wide field. :p
Get your quallies up on Database Management and write your own cheque :D

While the statistics can't be entirely made up, i.e. there is actually a shortage of skilled workers, companies are still not prepared to pay properly for the skills available, which is why companies find it so difficult to employ "qualified staff", whether of the pale male variety or not.

this is interesting.. worked for this DCX as a black employee... reported to a white male who knew zero.. I think the division that i used to work for has since experienced an exodus.. everyone resigned.. This sounds like some media campaign to get new business...

Very interesting.

the bottom line is money in my opinion. you will only attract technicians if you pay them top dollar.

Why does everyone want to be a Chartered accountant or Lawyer, not because they particularly like that type of job but because there is big bucks on the salary slip.

just my 2 cents.

Every company has been through this, and will keep going through it if you ask me until they realise they need to pay decently for staff, but also they need to stop poaching staff because the guys who are moving around constantly are not bettering themselves because it takes at least 3 months to get up to speed in pretty much any company and they then just have a flashy CV but no real skills or experience to back it up.

+1

I say experience is more worth than paper work... My 2c. :D

If only a survey can be done across all IT employees in different companies to see which company takes care of it's technicians.

None, you work them to the bone and when they get fed up you replace them and recover the higher cost of your clients...
