Hi guys,

I have a weird problem I'm trying to fix a friends pc its a oldish pc and had a geforce 7300 gs now the card was fualty so I got them a 5450 to replace it. Here is the problem if I plug my hd4850 into her board it runs perfect but as soon as I plug the new card in nothing happens no startup beep nothing to screen all that happens is fans start spinning. So I tested the 5450 in my pc and it works I also tried to use my psu on my friends pc and still nothing any ideas ?

Maybe it has something to do with the different standards of PCI slots? I.e PCI 2.0 vs 2.1?

Problems with the mobo. What mobo and what brand card? Did you also try the GeForce 7300gs in your PC to see if it's working?

How much RAM is on each card?

Have you tried flashing the MB bios to the latest version?

im not sure off hand what board it is but why would my card work in her pc the psu I tried 2 a 250 w and a 450 w both same story and yeah I tried the 7300 in my pc and it was dead

Basically, return to sender for refund/re-issue. :)

EDIT: Gut instinct says the problem might lie with the motherboard. Maybe the PCI-e slot's power output isn't quite right.

Try a BIOS update first (if you tried a 450W and that did not work it is a mobo/compatibility issue).

Ok when i get home tonight i will try do a bios update and see if that helps at all otherwise do you think that there is another card i can put in there that uses maybe slightly less resources ? i personaly think it is a power issue to the pci slot becuase my hd4850 has its own power as well (6pin) im thinking maybe thats why that card works ??

I had the same problem... and all it was was a loose sata cable. Don't ask me how this would make a gpu not work but what can I say? It'll work fine with the one card but won't boot with the next. So check that also.

My first instinct was also that the BIOS may be outdated. Also, refer to your motherboard manufacturers website for compatibility issues; they most certainly maintain a list of known incompatibilities.

Bump I have updated with the latest bios and still no luck it is a acer board(T671) and as far as i can see there shouldn't be any compatibility issues
