Hello guys I need some advice on purchasing a video card. I would like to play the new games like far cry 4,Call of Duty - Advanced Warfare, Watch Dogs etc. Currently i have no video card and i am willing to spend 3k on one.

Maybe consider waiting a month until the GTX 960 launches.

I still have mine. I want to get another card to crossfire it with, but I understand I will have to get a 7900 series card to crossfire, or the exact same one?

Wouldn't you consider rather selling it and using the money towards an upgraded single GPU? If you get another 7870 1) you'll struggle to find new stock anywhere, 2) you'll pay say 15-1600, double your power consumption and raise the noise, struggle with Xfire issues, whereas you could put that R3000 towards say a R9 280x.
 
The R9 290 is an awesome card for an awesome price. Secondhand it is cheaper and there is no shame in doing so.

It is an awesome price - R2799 including VAT.

Something similar from Esquire is R2999 exluding VAT (Gigabyte GV-R928WF3OC-3GD Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Graphics Card).

Now, the next question, is I see that the PowerColor requires a 750Watt PSU, while according to the Gigabyte website, that card required a 600Watt PSU.

Where can one obtain a decent 750Watt PSU which isn't going to break the bank & is it necessary?!?

I have considered this as well. The xfire option is really only if I can do it for fairly cheap.
 
Installed my new gpu last night.. what an awesome card. Running everything on Ultra. Tried to test Battlefield 4 but kept getting logged out of Origin for some reason. Will try again tonight.

But did manage to test Skyrim, Saints Row 4 and Simcity.. All running like a dream.
 
Hey guys was just skimming through the last few pages here as im also looking to upgrade my 560ti with something more current.

I see the recommendations for the R9280 is that still kinda the best thing to go for?

The 750ti is about R2100, R9280 is about R3300 and the 960 is also about R3300. Then i see the 760 is also about 3300. Flip ive lost touch since the last upgrade really have no clue what would be best value.

Help please :)

Which is better Gigabyte R9 280x for R2250 or Asus GTX 680 DCii for R2800?

BTW, do you think the R9 280x will be fine with a 550w power supply. Running a typical system and not over clocking, i7 3770, 1HDD, 1SSD, 1fan.

I would not run that card on the 550watt power supply ,unless it is an high end name brand one like corsair etc.

I would go for the R9 280x.
