Anyone know what graphics card I should buy... I want a card that is under R1000 cos its gonna be for an old box and it must be AGP. I was look at the Nvidia 6200. Any other suggestions? I try to avoid ATI cards due to bad experiences.

Thanks.

If you decide to go the Ati route, I've got a Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB lying around that I will let go for R600 . ;)

Only other suggestion would be to go for a GeForce 6600, but that would be pushing your budget a bit as it would set you back about R1175.

Old box? Why not go for the NVidia 5700LE? I have one in a budget box, and it gives very good performance. I picked up my 128MB card for just over R1k about a year back.

No offence dude but go check the stats, my R9600 Pro will kill any Geforce 5700, not even talking about an LE !!!

...and I'm sure a Geforce 6200 would be faster too.

Me too :D

I got my new card last night. I cannot wait to go home to play!

forget all those go for 6800le

ive heard you can unlock some pipelines but i dont wanna mess with its bios

anyone know about this?

I've got a vanilla 6800 - I used RivaTuner to unlock some of the pipelines. Worked well, gave a bit of a performance boost. It's only a soft mod, so it doesn't change the firmware or anything.

I suppose your bad experience with ATI was with one of their cheaper cards, they are **** but so are the cheap Nvidias. I still got a 9600XT and it works extremely well for its age and you should pick one up for cheapcheap. Whatever you do dont get a 64bit card ie 9200se, 5200 etc. 128 or highr

Just beware that it doesn't work on all 6800LE cards and the price difference between an LE and STD is only about R200 anyways.

But that's beside the point seeing as his budget is only up to R1000 killadoob, so if you can give it to him at that price go for it :p

Well, it was cheapish at the time, it was a 9200 pro, for the time it was fine, then all of a sudden the textures would go green or blue. Thought it was over heating, so installed fans, but eventually, any directX, glide game was green. Thought is was drivers, did a reinstall. No luck took the card back. New 9200 was fine, then after like 3 months same story again. I stuck in a 5200 on this box and have not had any troubles since.

Now, upgrade time again for office pcs so, i've donated the box to my lil cousin and wanted to give him an average graphics card. The box's specs arnt too bad P4 2.4 512mB ram, 80 gig HDD, so I know its not going to run Doom 3 on ultra or anything but at the same time, I want him to at least by able to play some of the older games at an above average frame rate.
