Hi I'm looking for a graphics card that can improve my render time/framerate when I'm editing/rendering high definition video (1920 x 1080). If possible the card should also have hdtv output so I can use a 2nd screen/hdtv for previewing. what graphics card can I get below R2000 ?

Is the leadtek 9600GT 512MB good enough ?

you can have a HD4850 for about R1900 from landmark, and the HD4850 supports HDMI (with sound) via DVI port :D. It also is much faster, and it also supports newer hd encoding etc

if you looking for nvidia, which you should be :),the 8800gt is a great buy for under R2k

Nvidia does have a HD video rendering , rather converting application called BadaBoom.
It claims to render 720P HD video up to 5 times faster than a Core 2 Duo.It uses the the GPU to render the video rather than CPU power. So if you have a 280GTX you may even get more FPS.Just Google "Nvidia Badaboom" and you wil get more info.

Make that the new and improved 9800GT :D

Only the 55nm version has hybrid sli and power improvements.

People who use nvidia because it's nvidia fail.

The 4850 has support for more codecs and hdmi and if you ever game it has DX 10.1.

I'm leaning towards the 9800 GT or the HD 4850 , is there much of a difference between the two cards ? I can get the 9800 GT for R1500 and the HD48950 for R1900 , I cant make up my mind

Everyone will tell you the 4850, but not being a fan of Ati I would go with the 9800 GT.... They are both good cards and won't disappoint.

um... well the HD4850 is more powerful then the 9800gt ... and ati's focus isn't on gaming, it's on the the whole family. And the HD4850 has UMV2 (i think it's that) and has better HD video support...

If you don't buy a GFX card for gaming or video rendering what then

graphics design, CGI, other wise you wouldn't get one I guess

and I read that Photoshop CS4 will use you graphics card to render images.
GFX cards are really powerful, and more companies are making use of these processors.
I read that the HD4850 is 4 times as powerful as the most powerful Intel quad core :D
