Graphics Card

Honestly i would rather wait for the new cards to come out (sucks waiting without knowing all the details, though i know) but if you going for 590 or 6990 i think it's definitely worth the wait for the next generation it is just around the corner.

But if you absolutely have to play bf3 right now then go for it.

btw are you playing skyrim if so how is the card handling that? maybe that can keep you busy till the new cards come out so you can play bf3

Hmm. I can play bf3 perfectly but i know im not on ultra haha. Not playing skyrim hey.

Best bet is to get 2 x 6850 from Esquire (R3000 for the two , vat inclusive), that's some serious bang-for buck power! Blows away a 6970 completely

Thanks killa.
Maybe the 590 is the way to go. Ag i dunno now.

It's still a dual card isn't it? I heard something about stutter going away with 3 cards, so you may be better off going tri sli or tri crossfire with 6950's or 560's.

What issues are you having Killa?
I think that for R 5600-00 Vat In, its not a bad choice. Even if I keep it for a year?

What you guys think?

My 295 is also a dual card and I dont have issues. HOWEVER, its DX 10 so I dont know...
LIke I said, I think for R 5600-00 its really not a bad call for now. Even if I sell it in 6 months for 4k or something. I dunno

More likely that it will be 3k, maybe R3500 in 6 months :)

Dude just a tip you better have a 3 fan cooler if you go 6990 and 6970, i was using it and it was amazing but the heat was insane. You won't keep that setup cool without an external fan. Aircon would be good to have.

The amount of heat is just ridiculous. It warmed my room in winter :p

Esquire has them for 4999 ex vat  5.6k inc

Power colour, if you are a fanboy and you want asus then just to put in another 2k for the name asus

I would however avoid a dual setup as i am finding bf 3 has issues with it or amd just suck with their drivers as usual.

Woa ok then forget what I suggested :D

What is the warranty on Powercolor though? I had a Powercolor card years ago and it didn't last very long, had to throw it away.

I would consider that a feature :D

LOL ya in winter it's ok, come summer with 28-30 degree temps and it ain't cool. Powercolour is one year, well my 6990 ran bitcoin 24/7 for 3-4 months and bitcoin works your gpu to the max so it's pretty good actually. I have had asus, gigabyte all die on me as well.

I bought a POV 9800gx2 and it's still going after 3 years. Besides i buy so many vga cards they normally get replaced within a year or so anyhow.

Yes, in your case. Not in everyone else's. You peddle fan info like gospel! ;)

Dude all good warning people about obvious heat incurred with dual high end graphics cards with high TDP. Needing "3 fan coolers" totally depends on their unique conditions. Just because you needed one does not mean everyone else does.

Bru everyone!!!!!!!!!! with a pc room that has ambient temps of 25-28 will need to run a big 3 fan cooler. I removed the side panel and replaced it with a 3 fan cooler, it was the only way. I don't want to get into a big hand bag session as we have been getting along very well but i have actually run the setup and i know what is required to keep a 6990 and 6970 cool. I don't have a shyte small case with no cooling. I have the haf 932, massive plenty cooling options but when the ambient temp is high there is little to no chance of keeping cool on a stock box all closed up. Believe me when i tell you it warmed my room in winter, that is not an exaggeration it is a fact. The 6990 is extremely hot add in another hot 6970 and you will need winter conditions or a 3 fan cooler.

Bare in mind i am not talking about some 25cm side panel fan running at 700rpm, i am talking about those clicks/game etc fans that are about 50cm x 50cm, remove side panel, plug fan in turn on 3 and the heat drops :p, the noise running a 6990 and 6970 at 60%-70% is insane as well. Regardless of the temps those fans push out so much air it keeps thing nice and chilled.

Ambient temps of 25 - 28'C in a room are abnormally high compared to the average 20 - 22'C most have.

You ran a 6970 and 6990 under those conditions, which may very well have required that you needed an extra 3 fan cooler for you.

By the way, did you ever tell us why you needed to run a 3 fan cooler?

Yes because i had a 6990 and a 6970.

Just as a matter of interest postman and i have asked this before, have you run a setup with a 6990 and 6970, if so please tell us how it went, what box, what make, what cooling etc
